„decisions“ is comprised – at the time of the publishing of this text – of roughly 240 sequences, each exactly 1 minute long. Each of the shots was initially published on the artist’s Instagram stories and refers to contemporary publishing and distribution methods on (social) media. Recurring motifs of these mostly very static shots are variois methods of transport and urban fauna, as well as residues and proofs of human presence, while trying to refrain from focusing too much on individuals.

All of the sequences were shot during his recent travels in Argentina and Armenia, as well as in his home country, Switzerland and the neighbouring countries.
They convey various degrees of movement and action within the selected framing, from almost freeze-frame shots to busy street scenes.

Even though the individual length of each sequence is only 1 minute, they are – in the context of “hyper-fast-pacedness” on social media platforms – challenging the (younger, or more influenced by contemporary media) viewer’s attention span, especially when they were shown on the platform they were initially published on.

„decisions“ is currently presented on 3 flat screens. Each screen is showing 100 sequences, which is referring to the maximum amount of „stories“ you are currently allowed to publish on your Instagram „highlights“.

We‘re happy to share some exhibition views of
DAY DIGESTION
15.–21.06.26
Soraya Oriana Blumer, Christoph Renfer and Raphael Reichert
curated by Pavel Kovalenko
KASKO (((•‿•)))
Burgweg 15
4058 Basel

”DAY DIGESTION reflects on accessibility, visibility, and social stratification within the contemporary art ecosystem, particularly during large-scale art events. Taking place during the week of multiple art fairs in Basel, the exhibition responds to a familiar condition: an overwhelming concentration of exhibitions, information, invitations, and images, much of it inaccessible to those outside established professional networks.
The exhibition functions as a process of digestion. Fair visits, news cycles, and everyday routines become material to be observed, filtered, and redistributed. Rather than celebrating the event itself, DAY DIGESTION examines how cultural experiences are consumed, mediated, and remembered, shifting attention from spectacle to perception, from exclusivity to participation, and from exceptional moments to the persistence of daily life.”

There are realities that were never told aloud. Not because they mattered any less, but because colonial violence, migration, and social inequality often shape who is allowed to speak – and who remains unseen.

Mohamed Bourouissa’s exhibition Pour Noubia opens a space for exactly these voices.

In the focus tour with educational scientist and racism researcher Asmaa Dehbi, we approach the traces of colonial wounds and their impact on the present.
Drawing on selected works and groups of works, the tour discusses the consequences of French colonial rule in Algeria, its lingering effects in the present day, and issues of representation, memory and social inequality. The focus will be on colonial violence and its effects on the body, the psyche and social structures, as well as on practices of resistance, self-representation and feminist perspectives.

CANOPY FOR BROKEN TIME — Zürich, Switzerland 🇨🇭✨

Suspended above the space like a living digital fabric, the LED canopy becomes a moving layer of light, texture and atmosphere — constantly shifting between structure and illusion.

Developed and realized by Lichtstark, the installation merges dynamic LED technology with the visual world of artist Monica Narula, whose moving image content transforms the canopy into an immersive visual experience.

A dialogue between motion, light and emotion inside the industrial architecture of Löwenbräu Zürich.

We create dynamic lighting experiences for art, architecture and immersive spaces worldwide.

Have you had the chance to explore our exhibition Disobedience Archive (Canopy for Broken Times) yet? Featuring a total of 50 films, we present the most comprehensive selection of this constantly evolving video archive, initiated by Marco Scotini @marco_scotini in 2005.

The exhibition highlights various forms of resistance, social struggles, and collective self-organization. Events, voices, and gestures come together in new arrangements, offering diverse perspectives and interpretations rather than insisting on a singular truth. Additionally, the Raqs Media Collective @raqsmediacollective enriches the exhibition through a dialogue with the archive, adding another layer of interaction and reflection.

Come by and immerse yourself in the films – whether as a group, with a friend, or completely on your own.

pics from my expo «Realpolitik» at Lokal-int @chrifrautschi thank you Valerie for your thoughts on eagles and past-present-future (text belowww) thank you Chri for keeping this utopia alive (20 years!!!!) thank you Raphael @studiostucky for the docu and thank you all who passed by 🌝🌚

When the eagles circle high above, it was best to ignore them, they say. Attention is what invites the predator to sit on our heads, cling on, and influence our thinking. Once the bird sits down, you are responsible for everything else: deciding whether to test and share your new thoughts and face the consequences; or to hold them back and sift through sieves until they lost the potential to offend. Hannah Arendt would certainly advise us to choose the former. If we think along with Arendt, the present offers an exclusive opportunity for political thinking. This does not involve sifting, but rather looking back and thinking ahead. The present is imagined as a temporary state between what‘s traditionally established and what may be the beginning of something new. It is the moment that connects experience and utopia, thereby providing impetus for political action. Right here, there is some grounding, there are things that can be done, new beginnings that can be realized, so that there may be places where birds can nest. Because utopias can come true. Wikipedia exists, the Bubble is testing it, Lokal-int still opens every Thursday, and Ursula K. Le Guin’s novel can be bought and read as a book: the fictional planet Anarres nests like a bird on our heads and lets porous minds keep thinking. (Valerie Keller)

What is a «Canopy for Broken Time» ? For the Raqs Media Collective @raqsmediacollective , founded in 1992 by Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, and Shuddhabrata Sengupta, the canopy is more than a structure – it is a space for watching, listening, and sheltering. The collective explores time and its experience beyond the rigid structures of modern society. We invited them to engage with the premise of the Disobedience Archive – as every presentation of the Archive is in dialogue with another artist. They respond to our fragile present – ecological crises, political polarisation, technological acceleration and ongoing global conflicts – with a strong image: the Shamiana.

In South Asia, canopies (Shamiana) are a simple, adaptable form – cloth stretched between poles that welcome the full range of human experience. Under their shade, weddings are celebrated, lives mourned, protests voiced, and meals shared. They are not onuments, but a spaces of togetherness, responsive to shifting rhythms.

Inspired by this idea, Raqs proposes Canopy for Broken Time within the Disobedience Archive – a constellation of temporary shelters. Traditionally made from fabric, in their work you also see shamianas from electric, acrylic, and other materials, such as projections of night skies. Under each canopy, clusters of works from the archive gather to form small worlds of attention, inviting visitors to linger and reflect.

The exhibition creates open structures that hold fragments of time differently – through acts of attention and being-together. Sit beneath these canopies. Watch, listen, linger. Let the Disobedience Archive become a living space of conversation, imagination, and recognition. Because under a canopy, time breathes differently.

In the final look-back post over our 2025 articles, we return to Alison Hugill’s review of Haegue Yang’s exhibition ‘Leap Year’ at Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst in Zurich. The exhibition is a sprawling survey divided into four core themes: movement, spirituality, community, and domesticity.

Hugill discusses fragmentation, cracking open of one’s previously entrenched sense of self, and an ancestral memory of place.

The exhibition is on view until January 18. Read the review at the link in bio.

The days between Christmas and New Year’s often feel strange – time seems to stretch, twist, and flow differently. It’s a moment suspended between the old and the new, between reflection and anticipation. Why not step into this unique rhythm and explore two exhibitions that embrace the complexity of memory, transformation, and the spaces in between?

🌟 Fabian Saul: This Is How the Light Remembers (Slide 1,3)
Step into a hauntingly beautiful installation that expands Fabian Saul’s @fabian__saul
novel "Die Trauer der Tangente". Through voices, objects, and spaces left behind, this exhibition explores grief as a shared experience - a bridge between the private and the political. It’s a story of hope, solidarity, and the possibility of imagining a different world.

🌟 Haegue Yang: Leap Year (Slide 2,4)
Dive into three decades of artistic exploration by Haegue Yang @yanghaegue , where abstraction meets figuration, and themes of movement, spirituality, and identity unfold. Her immersive installations and sculptures invite you to reflect on the interplay of personal and collective memory, the tension between familiarity and strangeness, and the quiet power of materials.

🕰 Let time flow differently this holiday season.
📅 Open until January 18, 2026 – and yes, we are open from 31.12.-2.1. 11am-6pm too.
