When all the furniture is either handmade by small batch makers or vintage, the room carries a certain warmth and quiet sophistication. We like our bedrooms to feel warm and layered, but also edited.

@benjaminmoore “Townsend Harbor Brown” takes center stage as the deep, moody, grounding cabinet color in this kitchen. We like to use panel fronts on all appliances whenever possible. Lately, we’ve been loving fridge and freezer columns to separate them, often placing them in different parts of the kitchen or with a pantry in between.

When the primary closet lives within the bathroom as a “closet, dressing room, bathroom combo,” you design it to feel all buttoned up behind elegant cabinetry.

Lauren from our team is a paint WIZARD! She has an incredible eye for finding whites that fit a space perfectly and make it feel warm and inviting. One of her favorite tricks is choosing a ceiling color that is similar to the walls, just a shade lighter.

In the formal living room at the Lakewood Farm House, she wanted to keep some of the original stained wood, but not all of it. You can see the stain on the baseboards and around the doors, while @benjaminmoore 'Ionic Column' was used on the fireplace millwork, crown molding, and walls. The ceiling then shifts to Benjamin Moore 'Shabby Chic'.

If everything had stayed stained, the room would have felt a bit too dowdy. This combination freshens it up for today and allows the original Batchelder tile to shine rather than recede.

There is something really magical that makes a kitchen FEEL different when you add touches of old pieces with history... a bit of patina, some perfectly imperfect fixtures and fittings. The pair of antique sconces, an old 19th-century knick-knack shelf, and a shaker peg rail with a handmade antique basket are doing just that for us in the Lakewood kitchen. And of course, the unlacquered brass bridge-mount faucet too.
