What an amazing season it was 🩵💙

It wasn’t our day but we aren’t defined by our failures, only how we respond to them.

A massive thank you to everyone at @sturtfc for offering me the opportunity to be part of something so special.

When I first landed the role as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, I was incredibly anxious. Working in a sport I hadn’t participated in as a junior definitely played on my mind. Moving into a new environment certainly challenged me. Internal & external expectations pushed me from pillar to post. Imposter syndrome was real:

“Do I even deserve to be here?”
“Do the players & coaches think I know what I’m talking about?”
“I feel like a massive fraud, I’ve never even played AFL before…”

I remember joking with one of the players midway through the season. I said “I actually have no idea what I’m doing”. I wasn’t joking, I really felt that way. His response, “well you’ve fooled me”.

At that moment I realised that all I’ve learnt from my experiences, from all the awesome coaches like @bash.performance & @s.c.baker who have guided me & from my own endeavours as a student, play such a massive role in so much more than just being a S&C Coach. I had the belief & trust from an exceptional playing group & coaching team. They trusted me & I never realised it.

Early in the season, I remember catching myself glancing over at the other team warming up to make sure I was “doing it right”. Once I realised that the coaches, staff, medical team & players trusted me, I realised everything I had thought previously about myself was a lie.

I took that trust & placed it in me. My development as a coach & more importantly as a person, flourished.

Sure, we fell short where it mattered most but that drives me more to get Sturt FC what they truly deserve.

Thank you to everyone at the Sturt Football Club.
