OCTOBER MEET THE ARTIST!

It’s a new month and we are delighted to introduce a new member to Sheen Artists.

In this months edition, Melanie Hobbs reveals what led her into painting and how her career in film influences her way of working;

‘Edit edit edit, something you can easily do with abstract art, but you do have to know when to stop. Usually one of my paintings has been at least 7 versions before I have stopped’

Read more on the Sheen Artists website, or comment below and I’ll send you a link.

Thanks to fellow member @saltydogpix for the stunning pics, set in the beautiful Richmond Park. And thank you to @gillhaynesart for pulling everything together!

The big day. The big reveal. My latest creation for a special someone’s special birthday @looniitunes @melaniehobbs.art Dusty aqua snood. Quite a tricky job, lots of new techniques, my most challenging yet. Knitting using circular needles, combining kidsilk mohair with cashmere, shaping the hood using short rows method and finishing with a 3 needle bind-off. More pics to follow. #knitting #snood #shortrows #circularneedles #cashmere #kidsilk

Takeaway from @watchhouse – first time here and super impressed. Cool, contemporary design with a serious focus on coffee.

For my order, they used two different beans: Bolivian for the latte and Peruvian for the long black. I’ll definitely be back soon to dive deeper, explore more locations, and learn more about their journey, from a single shop in Bermondsey to an international chain with 20+ locations. Kudos to @rolandhorne! #WatchHouse

Happy Monday folks!

Big shout out to @theo_619 for recommending @saifanaorganicfarm - what a find! This small holding farm and home stay made for a very welcome pit stop on our journey up north. Such a friendly team, great drinks and food, the Nasi Goreng - easily the best I’ve had! Lovely chats with the crew and to hang out with Cashew the cat, at least that’s what I called him for the day! Left with a bag full of treats for back home; cashews and cashew butter, further news to follow on the cashew of it all!

Melanie’s work starts as a mark in the landscape, a horizon, a point of interest . It often starts with reality but moves through to the feeling of a piece, an expressionist perspective. There is an instinctive pairing of walking through time and space, the colours blending and opposing as a conversation in the composition.

Melanie will be bringing some new monoprint works with her to the Spring Art Fair this year so pop along and ask her about them!
