Years ago, I asked if I could do my telehealth shifts from home. My patients were already being seen virtually, and I wanted a little more flexibility with my kids (and I wouldn’t have to drive home during traffic hour).

The response from a physician leader? “How do we know you won’t just be getting your nails done?”

That moment stuck with me.

Today, I own my own practice (with Dr. Heikens who is awesome!). This morning I had microneedling done on my way to work by my favorite @suezmd AND I opened my laptop, and started seeing my telehealth patients. My patients received the same thoughtful, attentive care they always do and it was relatable for them.

This is why physician-co-owned, women-led practices matter. We build workplaces rooted in trust instead of assumptions, outcomes instead of optics, and flexibility instead of outdated stereotypes.

Being my own boss means I get to practice medicine on my terms with excellent patient care, healthy boundaries, and without comments that question my professionalism because I’m a woman.
