Wait, what does your Receiver of Taxes actually do?

Unlike many elected positions, the Receiver of Taxes is a service job, not a policy one. The job is about collecting and processing property taxes accurately, efficiently, and fairly for the residents of Smithtown.

That’s why Brianna Baker-Stines is the right person for the job.

With 9 years of experience serving Smithtown residents on the Library Board, Brianna understands what it means to serve the entire community. As Receiver of Taxes, she will treat every resident with professionalism, fairness, and respect - regardless of political affiliation.

The job is about serving you, not playing politics.

Thank you to PACOLI and @pacolinewyork for the warm welcome and for hosting such a wonderful Meet the Candidates event!

I really enjoyed meeting members of the Pakistani American community, hearing directly from you, and learning more about PACOLI’s work connecting the community to civic life through voter registration, food drives, community service, and so much more.

I’m grateful for the hospitality, the conversation, and the opportunity to share in the wonderful food and culture. I look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Craig will do more than just show up. He’ll fight for Long Island and all New Yorkers every single day, whether it means protecting our water from forever chemicals or data centers that would drive up our electric bills, standing up to federal overreach, or bringing the tax money we deserve back to our schools and communities.

Early voting runs through Sunday, November 1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. Vote Craig Herskowitz for Assembly on the Democratic and Working Families lines.

Three incredible gatherings, one powerful reminder: our greatest strength comes from standing together.

Our first stop was the home of Bob Lopez and Carol Swielich. Thank you both for your warmth and generous hospitality! I also want to express my sincere gratitude to the Huntington Town Democratic Committee for its incredible energy, dedication, and determination to elect Democrats up and down the ballot. Your commitment to our communities and to moving Suffolk County forward is truly inspiring. I am so grateful for your support!

Next, we joined Empowered Muslim Women of New York, an organization founded by Shazia Jabeen, at the home of Shazia and her husband, Mohammad Azhar, for a meaningful afternoon of conversation and community engagement.

It was a pleasure to join fellow candidates @harjotfornewyork , @craigfornewyork , and @jonforsuffolk in discussing the issues affecting Long Island families.

A special thank you to @cherilyn.512 for covering this wonderful gathering and highlighting the important conversations taking place among members of Empowered Muslim Women of New York, their families, and friends. Your dedication to sharing these moments and amplifying community voices is deeply appreciated.

Thank you to our gracious hosts and everyone who participated. These conversations remind us that every community deserves a voice and that meaningful change begins when people come together and get involved.

Finally, we gathered at Teatro Yerbabruja for Safeguarding Our Communities on Long Island, an important discussion about protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of our immigrant neighbors.

A heartfelt thank you to NOW for organizing such a timely and necessary event. I am deeply honored and proud to have received your endorsement. Your confidence in me and your unwavering commitment to standing up for our communities mean so much.

Across all three gatherings, one message stood out: our differences do not have to divide us. Our shared commitment to fairness, opportunity, accountability, and human dignity can bring us together.

I am grateful to everyone who opened their homes, organized these events, shared their perspectives, and continues to wo

AI might be here to stay, but it doesn’t mean we need to feed it in our backyards. Data centers impose serious health and safety risks, from their environmental impact to the health threats. On Long Island, all of this is exaggerated because we get our drinking water from the ground, or our aquifer. That means what we put into the ground is what we ingest and expose ourselves to.

I am looking out for our residents here and now, not prioritizing a race with China at the expense of our families. I am glad that Senator Palumbo voted for the moratorium (or temporary pause) for data centers— but am deeply concerned that he would say ‘yes’ to them in the future.

Unlike my opponent, I will say NO to data centers now, in 12 months, and forever. There is no place on Long Island due to our unique environmental infrastructure.

In addition, the rise of AI is fairly new and rapidly growing. In a few years even, data centers could be obsolete. There is no reason to build these massive facilities in this community with all of these factors in mind.

I’m an environmental attorney, I’ve been working in this field for decades, and I’ve seen cases where people in the community get sick due to pollution. The impacts are lifelong and incredibly wrong to do to people who invested and bought a home here, knowing there were no nearby data centers.

Let’s keep Long Island safe and stand against data centers.

Vote early, order your mail-in ballot (by today), and make sure your voice on this matter is heard. Vote E. Christopher Murray for the First Senate District.
