Take a hard look at that little autumn flyer and realize the entire thing is just a velvet-lined shakedown masked as polite civic duty. You have Tony George orchestrating the room, Fady Chamoun bringing the Aladdin’s empire into the fold, and Jon Husted showing up with his hands out to collect his seven-thousand-dollar tribute from the local boy's club. To top off the whole hollow spectacle, Summer House opens its lakefront doors to play happy host to the circus. If you want to put a dent in this tired cycle of backroom handshakes, stop handing them your hard-earned money. Walk past Aladdin’s, stay far away from Summer House, and hit every single business tied to these self-serving fat cats right where it actually hurts. Starve the cash flow, call out the whole grotesque operation for what it is, and let their little pay-to-play country club wither on the vine

Beyond the revolting politics of it all, look at the sheer, unadulterated visual tragedy happening on that page. It looks like an intern was held at gunpoint in 2004 and forced to design a high-roller political fundraiser using exclusively Microsoft Publisher clip art and the theme from a middle-school Thanksgiving pageant. You’re asking people to cut checks for seven grand, and you’re framing the shakedown with clip-art gourds, dead maple leaves, and a gingham picnic border that screams discount potluck at a retirement home. Then there's the spelling—they couldn't even be bothered to run a basic spellcheck before begging for thousands of dollars, hitting the audience with an open invite to a "recception". It’s a tragic collision of gaudy fonts and fake rustic charm, the visual equivalent of serving room-temperature pumpkin-spice lattes in plastic cups while trying to look like high society.

For Tony and Kristine George, this is personal. Their son, Mikey, was born with Down syndrome and they know the joy, love, and value of a life like his. 🤍

When they heard about a YouTuber and his wife ending their pregnancy after a Down syndrome diagnosis, they were heartbroken. They decided to turn that heartbreak into help.

They committed $1.2 million of their own money to create the Life Grant through their nonprofit, @awakeningangelsorg offering $5,000 grants to eligible families welcoming a baby with Down syndrome through birth or adoption.

I sat down with Tony to hear the heart behind that decision, the love for Mikey that continues to inspire their work, and why supporting these families means so much to him and his wife.

That commitment also reaches into his restaurant, @summerplacecle where he donates the profits to Awakening Angels to help fund its mission.

Every child deserves to be loved, valued, and supported. And parents facing an unexpected diagnosis deserve to know they have support, too.

Last night was one of those nights that reminded me how much I missed being home. ❤️⚾️

We started with dinner and sushi at @summerplacecle ….one of my favorite spots, and even better knowing their profits support @awakeningangelsorg and the incredible work they do for individuals with autism and Down syndrome.

Then Erin and I took Nicholas and Anya to the Guardians game, had amazing club seats, laughed WAY too hard, and basically gave Anya a crash course in Cleveland culture. 😂

Lesson #1: Some of us will never stop calling them the Indians.
Lesson #2: Progressive Field will forever be The Jake.
Lesson #3: If you teach a 10-year-old this information, she WILL spend the rest of the night yelling “GO INDIANS!” at full volume. 😂🤦🏼‍♀️

And honestly… I loved every second of it.

There’s just something about Cleveland. The skyline, a summer night at the ballpark, being with our kids, laughing until your stomach hurts, and getting to do life with friends you love.

I spent a lot of years away from Ohio, and nights like this remind me how good it feels to be home. ❤️

Oh… and they won. 🙌🏼⚾️

Cleveland, you’ve got my heart. ❤️🏙️

Quarter rabbit in a lemon, OJ, Chardonnay, garlic, rosemary, thyme marinade. Confit in bacon fat, buttermilk battered and fried with polenta. Honey lemon Chardonnay arugula salad, and huckleberry jam to top it off.
