It's #FlashbackFriday! Did you know SU celebrated a birthday earlier this week? It has been 95 years since the Maryland State Normal School at Salisbury opened its doors to 105 students on Monday, September 7, 1925. Classes began the next day. Our roots in education run deep. The campus was a two-year institution dedicated to training rural elementary teachers. Under the supervision of the first president, Dr. William J. Holloway, the students learned, slept and dined in a single building (now Holloway Hall). They even taught young children there in an early “demonstration school.” Postcard images from those early years are courtesy of SU's Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History & Culture. We can only imagine how SU (or, depending on your era, SSC / SSU) will continue to evolve in the coming years. Go Gulls! . . . #fbf #history #campus #postcard #salisburyuniversity #gogulls

We are so excited to be back with more #flasbackfridays for you all! Check out this shot of the corner of Rt. 13 and Church Street around the 1950's/60s. The building on the corner, which has since been demolished, was once home to Bailey's Electric Co., hotel, and grill. This spot is now the home of our beautiful Church Street Mural, completed by Paul Boyd last year! As always we want to give a big thank you to the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History & Culture, whose photo archives make this series possible! We encourage you to explore their online resources!

SU continues to support the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Art Department faculty continue to use their skills to help first responders on the frontlines by now printing 3-D masks. The re-usable respirator masks can be sterilized and outfitted with filters. Physical education students from the Seidel School of Education coordinated with PAC-14 to create videos to help local school-aged children with physical education at home. The Women’s Rugby Club, many of whom have worked with Pinehurst elementary students, created a video to encourage them to finish the academic year strong. SU Libraries and its Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture have established a COVID-19 archive and are asking for public contributions.
