Today was a full day of learning and connection.

This morning, Amber, Lauren, and I had the honor of leading the annual UL Ecotherapy Seminar at the Acadiana Nature Station. We combined classroom learning with an applied ecotherapy experience outdoors, exploring the role nature can play in healing, regulation, and well-being. We all braved the heat, humidity, and mosquitoes together and spent time slowing down, paying attention, and connecting with the natural world.

Afterward, we headed to The Therapy Garden for our June CEU training. Zadora “Sunflower Z” Williams led us through conversations about implicit bias, anti-racism, and the ways our experiences and assumptions can shape our work, particularly when serving BIPOC clients and communities.

Different topics, but a common thread: connection requires learning. It asks us to be curious, to stay open, and sometimes to look honestly at things that are uncomfortable. Whether we’re deepening our relationship with nature or deepening our understanding of one another, growth begins when we’re willing to pay attention.

Feeling grateful for this team, these opportunities, and the many people in our community who continue to teach and inspire us.

One of the things that has always been part of the DNA of Business Besties Collective is our marketplace.

From the very first brunch, there was always someone creating something special that I believed this community needed to know about.

That’s why our marketplace continues to be part of the Business Besties experience.

When you arrive, you’ll have the opportunity to explore women-owned businesses, connect with vendors, and support the incredible work happening within our community.

Join us March 29 and discover amazing women-owned businesses.

✨ Small bites, big love ✨
We had the honor of catering the Black Women’s Wellness Retreat, serving up a spread that nourishes both body & soul: cheeseburger sliders, vegan shrimp & grits, spinach & artichoke dip, veggie skewers, steelhead bites, sweet heat, Beyond Beef & classic meatballs, fruit skewers, veggie pasta, and our house-made strawberry lemonade + lavender pineapple ginger beer. 🍓🍋🍍✨
Grateful for the opportunity to pour into this beautiful community and celebrate wellness, sisterhood, and flavor.
Big love & shoutout to @BlackRoseWellness for creating such an empowering space. 🖤🌹

Seen @flimediainc

I had the privilege of meeting @sunflowerz_heals when she held a 6 week group healing space for Black Women 3…maybe 4 summers ago. I was super timid. Quite. Didn’t share a lot or talk very much but I came every Saturday. Then one day, she had someone come do a sound bath for us, massages and she did reiki. It all came tumbling out. I’ll never forget that.

And when I was terrified to go on the @pitchblackorg stage, she had me over to practice my pitch and made me a playlist of affirmations to help me overcome my fear.

When we were artists in residence together last summer at Parallax, we cut up!

Z, your friendship means so much to me sis. You the realist of the real and I’m so grateful for you in my life. Love you mamas.

Buy her oils, journals, go to her retreats. Follow her @blackrosewellnesspdx , I guarantee you’ll unlock something.

In 2020, I was invited to support the development of a research paper to explain the effects of #teargas by Rooted Black and @dontshootpdx. At the time I had no idea what it would become. I got to work with a team of Black women health professionals, Arya Morman, ZaDora Williams and Dr. Anita Randolph who was a head neurologist at @ohsunews.

Our report was not only key evidence in Don’t Shoot’s case they eventually won, it helped push mayor Ted Wheeler to BAN the use of tear gas or CS gas in the city of Portland.

Tear gas is poison - point blank. It kills animals, corrodes nature, hurts people, and most definitely during a pandemic with mass crowds can spread COVID.

The 5 year anniversary of this lawsuit also happens to be the day my exhibit show at Don’t Shoot’s @theblackgallerypdx looking back at 5 years since the protests opens up, so even more reason to come thru 🔥.

This was just a glimpse of all the amazing vendors who showed out. There were so many more we didn’t get to include in this reel, but every single one brought something special to the experience.
Major salute to the visionary behind it all, @louisianacannaboss, and the official page @louisianacannfest for leading this wellness revolution!

This was our first year attending, and we already can’t wait for the next one💕
