2025 pt. 1
Last night at midnight in Spain 🇪🇸 we wished each other a happy new year 🥳 hoping 2026 would be better ✨ I joked, “it can’t be worse than last year, the only way is up,” but inside I felt a bittersweet ache. 2026 is the first year without my dad in physical form — without the normalcy I always knew. At the same time, it’s the first year in a very long time that he won’t suffer, and the first where I’m truly free to focus on my own happiness, outside of the toxic system I was born into. Time really does just keep marching on, as my dad always said, even without the people we love most.
✨
When I made my year recap video, I was struck by how full and beautiful this year was despite losing him. I prioritized being with my dad, spending as much time as I could in New York because I knew our time was limited. Our last Christmas was at my mom’s house — gingerbread houses, movies, meals, gifts — before he got too sick and we ended up in the hospital. Our last New Year’s we rang in on FaceTime: me in NYC with @sunjaknapp him in Pennsylvania cuddled on the couch with my mom.
✨
January and February felt incredibly low. I came home to a man who had changed so much in four months. But looking back, compared to now, those were highs — because he was still here. Perspective changes everything. We took our last trip to Celery Avenue where he grew up on the black dirts, and Martine’s Service Center, his two favorite places, in between hospital and doctor visits. We saw alpacas with my nephew, played blackjack and checkers, ate Dunkin’ Donuts 🍩 sausage and peppers 🫑 played scratch-offs hoping we’d win a million 💴 visited with the cousins 🫶🏻 but I have to say, the smallest moments were the most special 🫶🏻 Dean Martin at breakfast 🍳 his slippers sliding across the floor, his smile when he’d say, “Have I told you lately I love you?” The little things you can only experience in close quarters.
✨
I cared for him alone when he needed professional care — one of the hardest things I’ve ever done — all while injecting myself daily with high levels of hormones 💉 in order to freeze my eggs 🪺I was an emotional wreck, barely sleeping.

In person, Beverly D’Angelo (@officialbeverlydangelo) is everything you would hope she would be. During our sit-down, I found out what a fascinating woman she is, and why she is so loved. She oozes warmth, charm and is just as funny as you would imagine.

Did you know Beverly began her creative career as an animator for Hanna-Barbera? Then her passion for music led her to perform for years as a jazz singer (don’t miss a sassy clip of her FAB voice at the end of the reel) before she shifted into acting. She quickly landed memorable roles in the 70s, including Hair and her incredible portrayal of Patsy Cline in Coal Miner’s Daughter, which showcased her musical talent, and earned her a Golden Globe nomination. Beverly is also well-known for her iconic role as Ellen Griswold in the National Lampoon’s Vacation series. Her sharp comedic timing and warmth made her a household name. It was so fun talking to her about all of it… from movies to music, to love, we covered some ground!

With a career spanning music, comedy, and drama, she has remained a powerful, versatile, and much-loved woman in entertainment.

Thank you to @sunjaknapp for arranging this & to @iwishmarie for the edits! If anyone knows who recorded her singing, let me know so I can tag them properly!
