This particular gig was something very, very special to me. Most gigs are, don't get me wrong – I'm blessed to do this musician gig, more than I can express. The Bitter End is a place I've only ever encountered in story and legend. Although I live in NYC, I haven't somehow had the chance to venture here. It's a New York institution, so much history in the building.

The fact that my first opportunity to play here was with Vienna Carroll and The Folk – a band composed of Beautiful Black People presenting Blues, Spirituals, Funk, and a blend of Black Diasporic Forms through song and historical storytelling, for a room of Beautiful Black People – was something deeply meaningful. The deep knowledge and wisdom and musicality of the incredible Vienna, #StanleyBanks, Keith, and my dear mentor Newman is overwhelming. The music itself is Black Roots music, music deep in my bones that I've known and loved since possibly before I was even born.

I'm so grateful, beyond words. The Spirit was with us.
