I swear, y’all— New York is a poem.

one I never get tired of re-reading, even though I don’t quite want to call it mine (anymore).
one I may never finish (don’t think I ever could).

but it is a beautiful love story.

a roar of pride, regardless of how much you make.
a sea of blue and orange. and pastrami. and beef patties. a river of halal, pepperoni and mozz.

it is a well worn compilation of so many heroes’ journeys, intersecting one another underground like collaborative graffiti.

an interwoven web of songs, swelter, and so many elbows, silently communicating in bumps and swings on late night rides into and out of Manhattan. but it’s so much more than its skyline, rest assured.

and it is a different city depending on who you are coming into it. it FEELS different for me every time I return.

this time, I got to hit NJ and (more of) upstate’s expanse. I got to connect more closely with folks who only live a few miles away from me in CA 😂 I got to travel back in time with a classmate turned celebrity 📸 I got to see my parents, settled in their stillness (three years goes by in a blink, I swear). I got to taste the edge of victory in every slam I stepped into (again). but I felt better about myself and my work.

in a weird way, I become more myself when I’m floating far from home. I become the problem solver, the pacemaker, the beaming representative of tinseltown charm, whirlwinding my way through mics and venues and too many good eats to count.

I berate myself quietly and often for so much of what I fall short of in between the louder moments, but when I take a step back from the day—to—day and look at the life I *get* to have, I think: holy fuck, dude. your path is grand and beautiful. the lives you touch. the places you pour yourself into. the cinematic reel that gets to live inside your brain.

I don’t know where it’s all heading, but I’m working on enjoying the ride. may I find the time to turn all these grains of genuine happiness into glass.

Just out here trying to win #mercuryretrograde.

As further evidenced by the fact that I trusted the auto transcriptions & did not fact-check the multitude of errors.

Can’t believe I’d start 2025 making my debut as a tour director and having to be hospitalized days before the production hit the road. It set a precedence for my health and being kinder to myself in general.

This year would eventually welcome my Off Broadway directing debut, take me back to Milwaukee to direct at the Todd Wehr Theater, and would end with a dope experience as a fellow for the Hell’s Kitchen North American Tour. 💛

I have no idea what the next year will bring but looking forward to it all.
