Probably the longest I took to complete the book resisting the urge to not DNF it. I was mindblown by the movie so naturally, I wanted to read the book and @supercooledliquid was sweet enough to gift it to me. I went into the book with incredibly high expectations, especially because I found the movie so stunning.
That was exactly the problem. I kept comparing the book to the movie throughout and I think that made the reading experience feel more like a chore . The book is far more descriptive, with considerably fewer exchanges and interactions, the dynamic between Rocky and Grace a little off compared to how beautifully it came across on screen. The chemistry and emotional connection that felt so effortless in the movie didn’t translate for me in the book.
I wonder if I would have felt differently had I read the book before watching the movie. The story itself is compelling and there is certainly a lot to appreciate in the writing and world building, but having experienced the movie first made it difficult not to expect the same emotional intensity and momentum from the book.
So, while I did enjoy the book, I think the movie has completely spoiled me for it. Perhaps this is one of those INSTANCES where watching the adaptation first made it harder to appreciate the source material on its own terms.
And the reason I wanted to keep reading till the very end was because I had so many memories associated with it and I didn’t want it to go unread.🤧

No uterus? Apparently, no opinion. 🙃

Funny how some people think having an opinion requires having the right body part.

My body. My choices. My voice. Period. ✋🏽

Sometimes, all we need is to fly a little... to feel alive again.
