I cannot stop believing in miracles of things beyond it all every day in the ocean!
14yrs opiate free/ all drugs today. I will always stay 100% mindful of the suck.

Still here in the fight daily, surfing saves lives
No hands, No legs , No problems!!
Midnight always hits hard right after equinox each year!
My first life flight Oct 1st & open heart surgery was Oct 11th 2011
Andy Irons Died one year earlier & his story / passion fueled a whole new story in my life.

First adaptive swim session of the fall season. 🏊‍♂️💜

Different pool. Same instructor. And Simon was ready to work!

Because Simon can’t touch the floor of this pool without going completely under water, he has to work for the entire hour—and there is SO much happening here.

Simon is laughing. ❤️

We’ve been seeing more of this since he received MUSE stem cells and laser therapy in June, and hearing that laughter and seeing him enjoy himself like this means more to Mama than she can put into words.

And something else caught Mama’s attention today…

We have never seen Simon use his arms to swim this much. Ever. And look at how much he is kicking his legs under the water! 🥹

This is also such an important workout for Simon’s body. He has osteonecrosis of both femoral heads because of Sanfilippo, which makes high-impact activities like running and jumping difficult and painful. In the water, buoyancy takes much of the weight and impact off his hips while the resistance of the water still allows him to build strength, work his heart and lungs, and move through a greater range of motion.

Swimming can help:
💜 reduce stress on vulnerable hip joints
💜 maintain hip mobility and flexibility
💜 strengthen the muscles that support the hips
💜 provide cardiovascular exercise without high impact
💜 promote movement while reducing discomfort

For Simon, that movement matters.

Every kick. Every stroke. Every minute he spends moving his body helps us fight to keep him mobile, comfortable, and enjoying life for as long as possible.

Sanfilippo takes so much from our children. Mama is going to keep fighting to preserve everything we can.

And today, Mama is celebrating the laughter. The swimming. The kicking. The joy. 💜

That is the quote I would use to describe this year & surfing in both Kneeling + Stand Divisions on the AASP Pro Adaptive Tour!!

Every single moment in the ocean & surfing is a gift beyond measure!!
Thank you to the amazing people who believe in this, created a platform & are changing lives.
Somehow the impossible is completely real & happening in real time!! Adaptive/ Para surfing is coming up fast to the world.
Nearly 90 athletes from 16 countries competed in the US Open Adaptive Surf Championships in Oceanside.

2nd 🥈Place ! 🤩
To think of how far I’ve come in the last 2.5 years since diagnosis/amputation is wild.

To think of how far I’ve come in the last 10ish months of “officially” surfing is even more wild!

This last weekend in Oceanside, I surfed the biggest waves I’ve ever tried during the final stop of the @adaptivesurfingprofessionals world tour, and I am soo proud of my courage to not only paddle out the back but stay there for my entire final heat.

In June’s contest, at the harbor, I stayed on the inside white wash, but I told myself this time I could do it bigger!

Grateful is a word I’ll never get tired of saying cause it’s a feeling I’ll never ever get tired of experiencing.

THANK YOU @surfgimp__foundation and @cafoundation for funding. Thank you to my friends and family (which include my fellow athletes) who believe in me, support me, cheer me on and always remind me of what I can do when doubt comes in.
