So grateful to welcome indigenous Chief and wisdom carrier @rasuyawa back to Santa Cruz to share the profound spirituality of his people, the Yawanawá tribe from the Brazilian Amazon. We will be blessed with two Wednesday workshops in April;

🐍Wednesday April 8th: Saiti Class

Open your voice, learn to sing traditional chants of the Yawanawá. These sacred sonic transmissions will be passed to each participant for personal study, to dive into the healing powers of the rainforest. Typically this offering is only available when dieting in the jungle which makes this a special opportunity to connect to their amazing music in a respectful and authentic way. Please come for this rare chance with a wisdom talk, ancestral music class and vocal activation, live music, Q&A & art market.

🐍Wednesday, April 15th: Hapé Ceremony

Join us for an evening to bring community together to learn about Yawanawá culture. We will have an educational talk, Hapé ceremony (optional), live music, dancing, Q&A, & an art market with handmade items from the women in the village.

By attending either of these events, you will be supporting the Yawanawá village of Mutum and all of the families who live there. Art market sales uplift the community of women and their ability to earn money.

It is with absolute pleasure to announce that indigenous Chief of Mutum, Rasu Yawanawá @rasuyawa , will be gracing us with his presence in April for two amazing workshops in Santa Cruz, CA @santacruzyoga

Mark your calendars for this coming April:

WEDNESDAY, April 8th: Saiti Class
7:30-10:30pm
@santacruzyoga

Explore your voice through the ancestral songs of the Yawanawá people. Join us for this opportunity to dive deep into their ancient sound current, learning how to properly pronounce and sing their “Saiti’s” (traditional chants). Each participant will be handed down two chants for their own personal study. Rasu will also be teaching a saiti on guitar so please bring your instrument ready and tuned for this special treat.

WEDNESDAY, April 15th: Hapé Circle
7:30-10:30pm

Immerse yourself in the enchanting rhythms of the Amazon rainforest, supporting indigenous wisdom through education, live music, a sacred Hapé ceremony and vibrant art. Participating in the Hapé is completely optional.

✨Please note that this will be hosted in a yoga studio where there will be blankets and bolsters available to sit on. If you require a chair or blackjack please bring one with you. 🙏🏾

Rasu Yawanawá Bio

Rasu is the grandson of the great medicine man and xinaya Tata Txanu Natasheini, who was one of the most respected elders and wise men of the Yawanawa people. When he was born, Rasu was chosen and raised by Tata to be his successor, and was one of his closest students until Tata passed away a few years back at 103 years old. Rasu speaks his native language fluently and was the youngest Yawanawa to complete the highest spiritual initiation of his people, at only 17 years old. He is currently one of the chiefs of Mutum village, leading the ceremonies and taking care of tribal affairs alongside Chief Matsini. Rasu carries his grandfather’s lineage in his powerful voice and prayers, and he is a very talented multiinstrumentalist musician and composer.
