Was thinking of my mother’s filter coffee this morning! But was too lazy to make one. So I made a cup of instant coffee with cardamom and maple sugar instead! It tastes yummy and delicious. I feel the calming effect of cardamom and the energetic flavor of coffee. Of course the sugar, though not necessarily the best thing, but gave me the feeling of zen.

Cardamom: Rich in antioxidants, it helps combat oxidative stress.
Anti-inflammatory Effects: May reduce inflammation and support overall health.
Respiratory Health: Can assist in relieving respiratory problems and congestion.
Oral Health: Known for its antibacterial properties, it can promote oral hygiene and freshen breath.

Coffee: Increased energy and caffeine content helps improve alertness and reduce fatigue.
Coffee is rich in antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation.
Metabolism Boost: It can help increase metabolic rate, aiding in weight management.
Reduced Risk of Certain Diseases: Studies suggest a lower risk of diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and certain types of cancer.

Maple Sugar:
Rich in antioxidants that may help combat inflammation and protect against oxidative stress.
Lower Glycemic Index: Has a lower glycemic index compared to regular sugar, which may result in a more gradual impact on blood sugar levels.
While it can be a healthier option than refined sugars, it should still be consumed in moderation.

A note of caution: All of these are beneficial only if consumed in moderation!!

Enjoy 😉 your day! Life’s happiness comes from sharing your thoughts! And investing in small things that make you happy!

Castor oil

I am hearing so much, good and bad on every social media platform about this ancient oil.

Castor oil, derived from the seeds of the Ricinus communis plant, has been celebrated for centuries in traditional medicine systems for its diverse health benefits. In Ayurvedic texts, castor oil (often referred to as “Erand oil”) is mentioned for its medicinal properties. It can balance all three doshas. I often don’t recommend for internal use unless absolutely necessary. If I do it’s for a short term use only!

Castor oil is known for its laxative effects, providing relief for constipation and promoting bowel health when used appropriately. Again only a temporary solution!

Topically, it can reduce inflammation and pain in conditions like arthritis or muscle soreness.

It has moisturizing properties and can help treat dry skin and promote hair growth.

Often used in detox regimens, it may assist in cleansing the digestive system.

Castor packs are beneficial, use by soaking a cloth with castor oil and placing it on the affected areas or abdomen. It helps in absorption.

Don’t overuse use it! It can lead to severe cramps, diarrhea, and dependency, disrupting normal bowel function.

Some individuals may experience skin irritation or allergic reactions, do a patch test before use.
Those with certain medical conditions should exercise caution, as castor oil may exacerbate specific issues.

Disclaimer:
Consultation Recommended: It’s crucial to consult healthcare professionals before using castor oil.

While castor oil can be a beneficial addition to natural health practices, it’s essential to approach its use with awareness of potential risks. Balancing its healing properties with caution ensures a safer, more effective experience. Hope this helps!

Persimmons have become a part of my life. The fruit has become a powerful symbol of spiritual growth during the fall season. The journey of a persimmon from unripe to ripe is long, going through many vivid changes as it turns from green to orange. Just as the fruit undergoes change to reach its full potential, I feel I too am trying to embrace the transformations that have occurred and the lessons they bring.

Persimmons have taught me patience. The fruit requires time to ripen, reminding me that spiritual growth is a gradual process that unfolds at its own pace.

It is mindful meditation to me as well. Engaging with persimmons, harvesting, preparing, or simply observing them, encourages mindfulness within me and a deeper connection to the natural world. This connection enhances my spiritual awareness and fosters a sense of belonging.

So grateful to the nature for sharing this with me. Persimmons are a sign of abundance, inviting us to reflect on what we have in our lives. Cultivating gratitude for these blessings can deepen our spiritual practice and promote a positive mindset.

The fruit nourishes both the body and spirit. Engaging with nourishing foods can enhance our overall well-being, supporting our spiritual journey.
These persimmons are sacred, they emphasize the importance of community, fostering connections that enrich my spiritual life.

Every year, I am absolutely mesmerized when they start to turn orange. I try to capture every single moment and the colors and the positive energy they share with me. They are meaningful symbolic gifts to me and help me in my personal and spiritual growth, inviting me to embrace change, practice patience, and cultivate gratitude.

If you have similar experiences, I would love to hear from you. Please share them in the comments section.

I love peppermint tea and is generally considered safe, but it’s best to avoid if you are pregnant. It has been linked to heart burn, which is quite common in pregnant women.

As I sit down to put my thoughts and energy together to celebrate October and the festivities that come with it, I am grateful for all that I have accomplished and have done so far. This is the time to celebrate life! I have so much to celebrate and to be grateful for.

As we celebrate the beginning of Navaratri (9 powerful energetic days) it is a special time to remember the past and synchronize with the present. Navaratri begins the day after Mahalaya (no moon day) Amavasya, or the auspicious day that marks the start of the quarter of the year when the northern hemisphere of the Earth is said to experience the gentleness of the divine feminine.

Navratri is a nine-day festival that honors the nine manifestations of the Goddess Durga. The word “Navratri” literally translates to “nine nights” in Sanskrit.

Sharad Navratri, takes place often between September and October. It is a time of deep rest and rejuvenation. A time to conquer our internal strife and battle. A time to rise above the darkness and embrace the inner light and power. A time to celebrate peace! Happy Navaratri to everyone from Surrasa!

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, occurring around June 21st when the North Pole is tilted closest to the Sun. It marks the official start of summer and is celebrated in various cultures as a time of abundance, fertility, and renewal.

The summer solstice in Ayurvedic traditions holds significance in relation to balancing the body and mind according to seasonal changes.

Summer is considered a pitta season in Ayurveda, characterized by heat, intensity, and an increase in the pitta dosha (one of the three fundamental energies).

Balancing pitta during the summer solstice helps to prevent issues such as irritability, inflammation, and digestive issues. This can be achieved through cooling foods, herbs, lifestyle practices, and maintaining a calm mind.

Ayurveda recommends consuming cooling foods such as cucumbers, melons, coconut water, mint, cilantro, and other hydrating and soothing foods to counteract the heat of summer.

Keeping the body well-hydrated is crucial during this time to support digestion, maintain energy levels, and cool the body.

Meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises), are recommended to balance the heightened pitta energy.

Have a great summer!!
