Saving Face Performance

Thank you to all those who made it to the two performances of Saving Face @malahidecastle and to those who have expressed their kind support in words. Thank you to Cora Hickey who performed readings from Virginia Woolf's Orlando and to Sunniva Corr who performed readings from Claire Louise Bennett's Checkout19. It was so great to work with you over the last few months on this.

Big thank you to Cathal O'Dowd Curator of Malahide Castle who is so generous with his time and knowledge.
And to Eamonn Maxwell who curated the exhibition Thinning the Veil. Also to the great group of artists I am presenting work alongside @laurske_ @susanbuttner @ensorann @michelles_hall @deborahhewsonartist .

Thinning the Veil continues at Malahide Castle with a series events until November 24 2026

Spending time with Susan Buttner’s Intimate Architectures: Gesture Arrested at the RHA Annual Exhibition today, I kept thinking about how bodies and buildings both hold tension, memory and movement in their forms. This bronze feels like a gesture caught mid‑flow – a twist, a reach, a contraction – suspended just before it resolves.

Works like this are exactly why I care so much about sculpture in public and everyday spaces: they invite us to slow down, trace the curve with our eyes, and feel that echo in our own bodies. A single piece can shift how we move through a room, a gallery, a city.

👾 LAST DAY TODAY 👾
.
The often discarded aspects of daily life can reveal poignant realities. Off-handed comments and junk drawer contents can give way to important commentaries about the human condition, class structures, and lived experience. With this exhibition Ella Bertilsson, Susan Buttner, An Gee Chan, Michelle Malone and Alison Pilkington look to restage inner dialogues ranging from the silly to the existential.

Every January, The Library Project art bookshop closes to accommodate an exhibition by Black Church Print Studio. Bookshop visitors can still browse and shop online at thelibraryproject.ie with free collections being facilitated and international postage available. In addition, until the end of January, you can avail of FREE shipping on all online orders in Ireland.

The exhibition ‘Love you my sweaty’ is curated by Sara Muthi, winner of Black Church Emerging Curator Award at The Library Project. Featuring Ella Bertilsson, Susan Buttner, An Gee Chan, Michelle Malone and Alison Pilkington.

By employing a variety of practices across printmaking, painting, sculpture and drawing, the artists attempt to consolidate inner and outer realities, reflecting on the mundane and melancholic experiences of daily life through sincere, unaffected sensibility. Individual experiences of excitement, confusion, neglect and defeat are rendered surreal in a soirée of colourful pinks and playful dirt. Paying little mind to the boundaries between reality and fantasy, conscious and subconscious, the work unfolds hidden narratives and reveals the absurdity present in the everyday.

'Love you my sweaty' runs 12-28th January at The Library Project with the opening hours of Mon-Sat 12-6pm.
