As part of our “A Look Back at” series, we revisit the Project Space exhibitions from the 2024–2025 season. This year, the Project Space hosted seven exhibitions, including the MFA mid-program exhibition, capstone projects from various NYUAD departments, and exhibitions from the wider UAE community. Each show highlighted the research, creativity, and diverse perspectives within both the university and the local arts scene.

Located in the Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, the Project Space is a non-commercial gallery supported by the museum staff of the NYUAD Art Gallery. It remains a dedicated platform for community-led initiatives, experimental projects, and emerging voices from the region.

Thank you to everyone who participated and visited the Project Space. We look forward to next year's exhibition program.

It’s amazing to see how Ramadan is changing here - great turn-out by so many friends (who I mostly didn’t take pictures of 😢) at the opening / suhoor of the excellent show of locally based artists, SEEN/SCENE III, at @rizqartinitiative curated by @walterwillems.

This week, we are excited to welcome you back to our spaces. For the season’s first Project Space exhibition, we present “Susan Doe: Entwined,” which is now open to the public. Please join us for the Opening Reception, on Thursday, August 22 at 5:30PM. The artist will be present.

In “Entwined,” artist Susan Doe unveils a series of paintings, sculptures, and installations through which she explores ideas of intersectionality, rooted in her own bicultural upbringing. Reflecting on her Chinese American background, the artist blends together disparate elements to create something unexpected. Through this process, she plays with illusions of materiality, making metal threads appear soft and weaving paper to mimic large solid sculptures.

“Susan Doe: Entwined” is curated by Rabi Georges. Visitors are invited to walk in, around, and under the pieces, unveiling new perspectives through each work.

Discover Susan Doe’s practice and her adoption of the tropes of sculpture and installation to explore abstract constructions of personal and societal hierarchies.
