My early sense of style and colour…may explain how I ended up dressing fashionably rather than appropriately on so many occasions 🙀#styleanderror #dresscode #vintagestyle #inappropriatelydressed #memoir

Such an honour to meet Barbara Hulanicki…

Innovative, amusing and possibly the coolest 87 year old on the planet. A pioneer of so many of today’s fashion, retail and lifestyle trends. 😎

Enjoyed a nostalgic tour of her emporium at The Biba Story, 1964-1975 with expert curator, Martin Pel, and an insight into Barbara’s amazing foresight and skills as an illustrator, designer and visionary.👏🏻

The Fashion and Textile Museum should be the go to destination for anyone interested in or studying social history, fashion, textiles and material culture. 👍🏻

Btw there are a few remaining vintage Biba items available at ShopCurious, please check out my website www.ShopCurious.com, or Insta shop via the link in the bio.❣️

An insightful evening courtesy of Atelier Tammam.

This was an exhibition of designs made in collaboration with the European Space Agency to ‘save the planet in style’, showcased at the Royal Geographical Society. You can visit until 23rd April.

We need to look beyond the confines of our planet to understand how we can make it better.. ♻️

I am always inspired by Tammam’s craft inspired projects and love the latest One Dress: Planet charity initiative https://www.tammam.co.uk/onedress where you can donate to have a flower embroidered in your name. 🌸

I have written about the One Dress concept previously @visuologymag and admire Tammam’s sustainable approach to addressing 21st century dress.

Bravo! 👏🏻

Midnight in Paris SW13…

I spent a fabulous evening at the Barnes Charity Ball. 🎉

My Modern Day Marie Antoinette costume was actually curiously vintage. I’ve had this dress for years - in fact since my days as the owner of Fashion Gallery boutique in Little Venice in the late 1990s, where I stocked Impasse de la Defense collections, conceived and created by the talented and much underrated French designer, Karim Bonnet. 🇫🇷

This Tour Eiffel dress was hand painted by Karim. I’m pleased to say that the zip is still holding up 25 years later - especially since this is a model size 8, and very snug on my ancient British body. ❣️

I’m not sure how I danced in vertiginous heeled shoes by Kat Maconie, but I somehow managed, sadly losing quite a few rhinestones in the process. 💃

The jacket is vintage Marian Clayden. ♻️

The photos are my own, apart from the first and last, which were taken by official photographer, Alla Bogdanovic. 📸

Bravo to all involved in raising much needed funds for local, international and church charities. 👏🏻

Feeling hot, hot, hot! 🌶️

As the mercury hits the low 30 degrees C in London this weekend, I am wishing I was somewhere more prepared for hot weather.

One of the coolest hot places I have been this year is @thejamaicainn .😎

Here I am on the beach tucking into jerk chicken pizza. One of the best pizzas I have ever tasted in my life. 🍕

Oh, and for anyone who’s interested, my @farmrio printed silk jumpsuit is almost vintage:-) purchased nearly 15 years ago on a trip to São Paulo. And these quirky catseye shades from @miumiu are curiously timeless.

Besides the vicinity of the freezer cabinet in your local supermarket, where’s the coolest place in your neighbourhood? 🪭

I’m curious to know where you go to ‘chill out’?

How often do you wear a hat? 👒

Probably at weddings? Maybe at funerals? Definitely in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot Racecourse…

And when this celebrant celebrates life.🤗

I love hats, as you can see from these photographs taken yesterday at Royal Ascot. My photograph was even featured in the Mail online’s Femail column, where the caption said: “Gatsby glamour! One guest opted for art deco chic in a 1920s style get-up.” ❣️

Not quite, but maybe that was the look I inadvertently created from a vintage Voyage duster coat and Empire line paisley silk dress (both late 1990s), preloved hat by Natalie Sergent (c.2000), with Coronation Collection purse by @radleylondon to celebrate King Charles III’s first appearance as monarch in the royal procession. Must have been channelling my inner Paul Poiret. 👌🏻

What a joyous day! 🏇🌸🏇

Did I mention I also wear pink? 🩷

Bumped into the fantabulous 💕 original hot pink fashion heroine that is Dame Zandra Rhodes @zandra_rhodes_ , along with equally colourful Wendy, @garsingtonopera .🎶

Zandra loved my curiously timeless embroidered Barbie pink silk Voyage dress (circa 1999-2000?). Plus vintage (late ‘60s-early ‘70s?) coral velvet coat with neon pink frill collar by Joseph Magnin, and @katmaconie evil eye shoes.

Not the most flattering angle though.🙀 Where is a professional photographer when you need one?

Posted @withregram • @thetrendatelier What is Purpose led forecasting?

We will present the fundamentals of purpose led forecasting and how we follow this blueprint in the Trend Atelier through tools we are creating and continue to shape as our ongoing commitment to creating a world compatible with the planet and a global culture of care.

Our founder Geraldine Wharry @trendatelierbygeraldinewharry will be our host.

Excited that Rumi Joseph @body_drift , Susan Muncey @susanmuncey and Monika Pranckaitytė @pranckaityte will contribute their thoughts as inspiring voices in the field or futures, fashion sustainability and education. And valued members of our community.

What is purpose-led forecasting for you and how does it impact your personal and professional goals?

How do you embed your mission and the cause(s) close to your heart in your work?

How do you make sure that your values are aligned and communicated in the foresight and/or future-conscious design work that you do?

How does this lead to change not just intentions?

We are creating tools to support these questions and needs. It’s not a straight arrow. When you’re hoping to write a new playbook to how we thrive, nothing is.

We’d love to share with you tomorrow what we’re working on and what has worked for our members.

Join the conversation! See you later 💪🏻🌏💚

My third V&A Academy course in a row…

I so enjoyed the previous two series of lectures, I simply had to sign up for the 12 week Global Threads course, run by Jennifer Wearden. 🤓

This course covers the 17th to the 20th century and focuses on styles of dress all over the world and how these were influenced by culture, travel, trade and technology. 👍🏻

The first sessions were excellent - I’m looking forward to feeding my brain with more slow fashion history over the coming weeks. 🤗

PS This image is a detail from a sample book of Worsteds made for the Portuguese and Spanish markets in Norwich in 1763 (ref: V&A Museum 67-1885). 🧶
