Listennnnn this was my third @nzfashionwk since starting @noirtheagency and you know your girl had a ball each day I attended 🖤

Whilst NOTHING beats cheering on NOIR models on the runway and seeing the work of designers I’ve grown to know, I had a few new favourite moments this year:

1. Meeting @stanwalker and him thinking I’m a model. I’ve told approximately 30 people about this and I’m not finished tellinnnn.
2. Sitting front row next to @swannnora and @danahwa at @pacificfusionfashionnz and celebrating 10 incredible years.
3. Being named one of the top 10 coolest people at NZFW by @avenuesmagazine. If only they knew my true creature self 😂
4. Hating to see @emanuelcollinsss leave but loving to watch him walk away ☕️🤏🏿💅🏾
5. The beautiful people I met OUTSIDE Shed 10; other magazine/publication owners, photographers, fashion show goers and more. @sophie.b.petersen @daisyhenry_ @caitlanmitchell
6. @arianeilagan SWAG hat and @tiara_kt coat 😤
7. Apparently I’m now an amateur street-style photographer for @mode.magazine_ with no credentials other than enthusiasm and my beloved @canon.nz camera🤷🏾‍♀️😂
8. Last but not least seeing the one and only @tekjoukpal her beautiful face all over the city ❤️‍🔥

But truly, @finding.louu summed up what I loved about this year perfectly: “The biggest trend at New Zealand Fashion Week? Not dressing like everyone else.” 😮‍💨❤️‍🔥

As a 6’2”, plus-size Black woman, I love fashion, but I also want to be able to imagine myself inside it ✨I want diverse bodies, heights, cultures and ethnicities on the runway. I want personal style that actually feels personal. More individuality and more joy.

This is why @pacificfusionfashionnz remains the absolute highlight for me, and I’ll stand 10 toes down for this show foreverrrr. Let’s keep making room for ALL people; their bodies, cultures, personalities, stories and their specific self-expression.

5 years ago, NOIR was an idea I had for years that I only finally got the courage to pursue when I became a mother. Something in me wanted to show her and myself that the dreams we are blessed with are worth pursuing, despite their magnitude or our fears; and with all of you, we’re doing it!

Since then, NOIR has become hundreds of beautiful faces, opportunities in film, fashion and commercials; friendships, lessons, ridiculous emails and so many proud moments. Most importantly, it has become a community of people who believed there was room for something different; people who hold space for and encourage one another.

So yes, this party was in January. Yes, it is now August. Apparently running an agency, raising a family meant that the anniversary post celebrating 5 years in business required an additional 7 months in post-production 😂 Looking back at these photos now actually feels so special.

Building a small, independent agency centred around diversity has meant learning as I go, challenging conventions, navigating an ever-changing industry, making mistakes and getting better and sometimes creating the space I was waiting for someone else to make.

So thank you.
To the people who have been here since the beginning. To everyone who has trusted me with their careers, faces and stories. To the clients and creatives who took a chance on NOIR. To the people who understood that behind the emails and bookings is also a woman learning how to run a business whilst raising a young family. To those who offered patience, encouragement, advice and opportunities and, frankly, even to some of the people who doubted us. You gave me something to prove.

5 years later, we're still here.
Still evolving. Still making space.
And I think that's worth celebrating, even 7 months late 🖤
