POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Some days are just pure joy. Yesterday was one of them. I started the morning with an inspiring webinar from @swas_uk, exploring the safeguarding of South Asian boys. Powerful poetry, thought-provoking research from Dr Hannah Begum, and honest conversations challenged us to reflect on the biases, systemic patterns and assumptions that continue to shape children's experiences. There was so much to take away, alongside a clear call to action through the launch of the Chup public campaign. From there, I swapped webinars for the park. An afternoon kicking a football around, enjoying the sunshine and stopping off at a café with my son. Those moments matter as much as work stuff, and are the highlight of my fridays. They keep me grounded and remind me exactly who we're trying to build better systems for, and of what is of greatest importance in my life ❤️ The day ended with the Churchill Fellowship, spending time with passionate fellows who are asking difficult questions, sharing ideas and imagining a different future for children and families. Seeing the work they're developing gives me so much hope for what's possible when we invest in people as well as policy. Different moments. Different spaces. But all connected by one purpose: creating a better future for children. What's filled your cup recently?

🌿 As South Asian Heritage Month comes to a close… we have spent the past month reflecting on our stories — of migration, resilience, identity and triumph. We’ve celebrated the languages, traditions, and cultures that connect us across continents and generations. We have honoured the journeys of those who came before us, whose sacrifices made our routes possible. But our heritage isn’t something we pack away until next year. It lives in us — in the choices we make, the spaces we occupy, and the stories we tell every day.   So as this month ends, the work continues. • To celebrate. • To challenge. • To lead. • To belong — unapologetically.   💬 What’s one thing you’re taking forward from this South Asian Heritage Month into the year ahead? 💬 Conversational: “I wore the badge, kept the bindi and changed the face of policing — one shift at a time.” 🎙️ Empowering: “Stories of courage, culture, and carving your place in the force.” 🌸 Cultural & Proud: “Where the badge meets the bindi — and the stories behind both.” 🚓 Bold & Direct: “Breaking barriers in policing, one story at a time.” I am the daughter of parents who originated from the Punjab in India — proud of my culture, religion and values. An ordinary young woman with extraordinary dreams, I took a path that very few expected…becoming a Sikh female police officer . That step into policing didn’t just fulfil my dream; it paved the way for future generations. Over the years, I broke barriers, faced resistance and found strength in the moments that mattered most. Now, through my podcast Behind the Badge and the Bindi, I share the real stories of life in policing as a South Asian woman, inspiring others — especially women from similar backgrounds — to know they belong in spaces where they’ve never seen someone like themselves. #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #RootsToRoutes #CulturalPride #RepresentationMatters #IdentityAndBelonging #DiversityAndInclusion

The launch of SWAS took place in South Asian Heritage Month. Launched by social workers from the South Asian diaspora, SWAS is a group for practitioners to come together to share, reflect and innovate with other like minded professionals, openly and safely. The evening involved poetry, crafts, reflection, personal stories and food! As well as the inspiration behind the group and where it wants to go. Read about SWAS on communitycare.co.uk for the lowdown. #SWASlaunch2025 #southasianheritagemonth #socialworkersuk

What an incredible night last night at the @swas_uk official launch Their mission, values and dedication to what they represent really struck me and I’ve been thinking all morning about it. These ladies are doing an amazing job and I look forward to joining some of their groups, staying connected and seeing how I can support what they do because so much that was said resonated with myself. As a South Asian woman myself and a silenced survivor who’s worked her way up from minimum wage right up to global senior leadership roles in project management pharmaceuticals. I know only too well the barriers, challenges and discrimination that occurs along the journey most of the time. I made it through and Im lucky and blessed to have the career I do in a global leadership role but some are still facing those challenges even today. As a survivor who supports other survivors, believe it or not challenges and racial barriers occur there for myself and I’ve heard from many others similar stories too despite the length of time and work I have put in to become an expert in VAWG. I’m highly qualified; enough to keynote speak and train others in VAWG topics, I have still in the past been made to feel I’m not good enough. How do we stop this? I don’t know the answer but speaking out and challenging people’s narrative is a good start. We as a society need to do better to call out behaviour that’s not appropriate and to challenge others where we have the integrity to know what’s happening isn’t right. I was lucky to have met some incredible people there too and look forward to staying connected to all. To the @swas_uk team there was something about all of your energy that made me feel really safe which is incredible rare when I’m in a new place and around new people for the first time, for that I thank you very much ❤️🙏 #SWASlaunch2025 #sexualviolenceawareness #domesticabuseawareness #southasianheritagemonth #femaleleaders #strongwomen #mentalhealth
