This week I’m speaking with Jason Koertge (@koertge.idea.fabrication ). We have a fantastic conversation about “The Voluntary Beatdown” and writing, his early spey experience, the uglier side of fishing, the gentlemanly side of bird dogs, mindscapes, light beer, big families and elk, and so much more. As always you can listen in at TheRiverRambler.com, SwingTheFly.com, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Perfect conditions aren’t always the prettiest ones. Cloud cover and a bit of wind are usually a good bet when chasing seatrout. You immediately feel the weight of these big fish, the best feeling in the world. Las Buitreras at its finest!

A school of sea-run brown trout at Estancia Las Buitreras. Always incredible to see them moving through shallow water.

Exploring your immediate world with your tool of choice.

As I continue to put our reports each week, I want to continually encourage being outside, on/in your local water exploring what is close to you.

Frequency is the key to habituating yourself to any watershed.

The more you see it the more intimate it becomes to you and knowing your home water this well will always equate to more success.

Daylight is going to be in short supply here soon in the Seattle area so lean into your local watershed to increase your frequency.

There is a ton to explore around greater Seattle and I am here to help you.

Come see me, DM, call, text send a card…whatever. Let’s just keep you on the water all year, having fun.

Fly fishing is fun…never forget!
