Swingtronic presented:

A Benefit for Byron Thompson featuring The Grand Slam Sextet!

Many of you know our dear friend Byron and how he has bravely battled a failing heart for years. On December 16th, 2023 Byron was hospitalized and has endured an extended stay in critical care trying to qualify to receive a new heart. Thankfully, on February 21st, 2024, Byron received a life-saving heart transplant. While this is fantastic news, the journey isn't over. To ensure a smooth recovery, regain his independence, and get back out on the dancefloor, Byron needed our help!

We enjoyed this very special evening of great music by The Grand Slam Sextet, Vintage vinyl swing tunes by Professor Watson, raffle prizes and incredible libations, and all proceeds of the event went to Byron!

There were raffle prizes that benefited Byron from many incredible sponsors including a full weekend pass to Camp Hollywood, tickets to Knotts Berry Farm, a tattoo from Zoey Taylor, merch and music from some of our favorite local swing bands including Marquis & The Rhythm Howlers, Lil' Mo and the Dynaflos, Janet Klein, dance classes with L.A. Jitterbug Swing Dance Academy, martial arts lessons with Conrad Cayman, tickets to Cicada Club, and much more!

Thank you to musician Maureen Davis for helping organize the evening and for organizing the raffle!

And thank you to everyone who donated their time and talent for the evening!

you can still donate by searching GoFundMe for Byron Thompson.

Get well soon, Byron!

We’re donating these Howler records & a custom Skelecoat to the @swingtronic benefit for Byron Thompson tomorrow night (Sat. 5/11) at @crowncitydance

Our 10” Post-Apocalyptic Jukebox album, our Ojos Oscuros 7” single, and the big fun, a custom hand painted skelecoat! You supply me the coat & I’ll make it HOWL!

Byron had to get big medical work done for a major health crisis & we’re coming together to raise whatever we can to help make his recovery easier.

Kudos to @mnm5maureen & the Swingtronic powerhouse for getting this together. 🖤

@campusfive will be on hand with his amazing Grand Slam Sextet so you know the dance floor will be hoppin’. Get down there & be glad you did, for all the right reasons.

How cool is this secret upstairs room at @sassafrassaloon?! Thanks to @beach.chelsea for showing it to me and taking this video.

Sassafras saloon definitely feels like a step back in time… not 100% what time but early 1900s somewhere in the southwest. Live jazz from @bigbutterjazzband and @professrwatson spinning vinyl brought out that ~1930/40s feel and some great dancers! I stayed past midnight even after a 10-hour workday. Looking forward to checking out another @swingtronic event soon!

Things I’m missing desperately: music making! Well, performance of any kind, really, but oh—that music! The next show(s) scheduled for me won’t be until @viva.las.vegas.vlv in April (although what a great and busy weekend that will be!) and my top secret project is on the back burner for another 9 months or so…keeping plenty busy, but grrr! Flashback to 2017 in Hollywood at @swingtronic with the late & great Tim Gill on vocals. He was the first person I asked to join the band. Once he said yes I knew it was going to work.
