POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Two years ago today, the world lost Grizzly 399.

She captivated people around the world and gave generations of locals and visitors a glimpse into the life of a wild grizzly bear.

Two years later, people are still talking about her, sharing memories, and advocating for the protection of grizzly bears and their habitat because of her.

She created an extraordinary connection between people and a wild animal.

And for so many, she brought joy.

A community formed around a bear.

For years, Grizzly 399 brought people together along the roadsides of Grand Teton National Park, making her a roadside bear. Photographers, wildlife guides, locals and visitors from around the world gathered at these “bear jams” in the hopes of catching a glimpse of her.

Over time, familiar faces became friends, stronger bonds of shared experiences seeing a grizzly bear in the wild, and a community grew.

In 399 Forever, the people behind the bear jams are explored and the unexpected connections Grizzly 399 created. 🐻📸 @jacobpaulphoto

Mother and cubs in Katmai. Unfortunately this mother did not appear well fed and unless she picks up her weight soon she may struggle to survive through the winter. Scroll left. Notice the fish they are just watching in the 3 rd shot.
These were during our recent trip to Katmai National Park with Pangea Expeditions and our amazing guide Syler.
