When the palace behind you holds paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, and you get to bring three of them to life through dance!

Grateful to @gaurisharmatripathi for being these paintings from canvas to choreography, it was such a joy to pay tribute to three timeless masterpieces by Raja Ravi Varma, letting their stories find movement, rhythm and expression through the body.

This dress was created for Croatian singer and performer Silvija, who performed at a Ukrainian Independence Day celebration at @tpm.del , Saket. The evening brought together multicultural artists and musicians through music and performance, creating the context for a garment that could carry Ukrainian craft into that setting.
The embroidery motifs used in the dress were originally developed during my Live Industry Project, in collaboration with the Embassy of Ukraine @ua.emb.india in India, where I explored Ukrainian craft, symbolism and visual language.
For this individual project, I developed those motifs further into a contemporary performance garment specifically for Silvija. Rather than recreating traditional Ukrainian dress, I wanted to reinterpret elements of its textile heritage through silhouette, material and hand embroidery.
A project exploring craft, cultural exchange and performance and how heritage can find a new expression through dress.

❤️🫶👍!!! My first time performing in the Balkans🙂!! Humbled to have sung the title role in Handel’s rarely performed opera Siroe with @belgradebaroqueacademy , the first time it’s been performed in Belgrade!!

I never do this either but sod it 🤣, for once in my life I’m going to big up myself a bit hehe 😂 and share a review from Radio 2 Ars Sonora in Belgrade …

“The countertenor, Biraj Barkakaty, gave a very convincing interpretation of the title role, Siroe. His voice possesses rich expressive resources and succeeded brilliantly in conveying each emotional nuance present in the libretto. “ 🙂👍❤️🫶

New Year's Resolution: Re-start sharing what I do. So, here we go...

"The premiere of the opera Giulio Cesare in Egitto at Madlenianum represents the first staged performance of this work in Serbia on period instruments and was held on the Madlenianum Day, traditionally celebrated on 26th January. This event is one of the central operatic moments of the season and a confirmation of the Madlenianum's enduring dedication to the pinnacle achievements of the world's musical heritage. The production was also developed through work at the Belgrade Baroque Academy, within which the Early Music Studio works intensively with young, talented soloists.
