Massive thanks to @syncrogearboxes for building us this custom transfer case with helical-cut gears. This unit will replace the original unit, with straight-cut gears, that were excessively loud, given the mounting location—under the dash/center console…combined with the fact this is not a race car application.

Packaging in these vehicles is beyond challenging, as you can see, and there are few companies willing to make one-off custom helical gears, therefore we are very grateful to “Shabs” at Syncro Gearboxes for making it happen🙌

Td5-8hp - Two years is the time it took to get this setup working properly. Countless nights of reading, puzzling and testing. A lot of lessons learned and a lot of money spent on learning lessons.
In the end I had to turn to the best Td5 tuners in the world @alivetuning to really get this setup to work as it should. They are one of the few (if not the only one!) who really managed to get 8hp/td5 combos to work as it should. It now shifts like it came from the factory this way and it’s an absolute weapon.

I dare to say that the 8hp conversion is one of the biggest breakthroughs in Defender upgrades that we have seen so far. It creates a Defender that can do everything the original one can but it does it faster, smoother and way more comfortable. All whilst maintaining that real Defender feeling/charm.

Now, time to finally start using the Defender and put some miles on it 😎👌

Rear knuckles - So these are the rears. All billet. Take the same huge unit bearing that bolts up to the stock x3 axle shaft. Same bearing on all 4 corners and no special tools to change them. The knuckles fit up to stock x3 arm location/bolts. They're double sheer on the centre rod. Take a com10t uniball bearing for the upper and lower mount. The same brakes as upfront, which means all the discs and all the calipers are the same on each corner.
We're testing these at King of France next week.
Better brakes, stronger knuckles, stronger wheel bearings are all things we need for our KOH car, to make it better and easier to work on. The uniformness of having the same disc, caliper, pads and unit bearing on all 4 corners makes servicing easier too. It's also less parts to carry.
There's 3 other big changes we're going to make to the Koh car. More info coming soon.
