We turn sunlight into fuel. 🌞⛽ Our #sustainable #solarfuels can directly replace fossil fuels and contribute to a net-zero transportation. 💛

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At BGT 2026, our Official Pioneer Partner @synhelion joined us high on the Pass, giving participating drivers the opportunity to fuel their cars with renewable synthetic gasoline throughout the race weekend.

Seeing cars ranging from pre-war machinery to later GTs take on the race using a fuel designed for conventional engines (without changing what makes them so special) makes this partnership particularly fitting for us!

It was a chance to bring the technology into the paddock and let drivers experience it, ask questions and put it to use on the mountain. A big thank you to Synhelion for joining us and for sharing our belief that preserving automotive culture and looking ahead can go hand in hand.

Check out @synhelion to learn more about their renewable synthetic fuels.

What a feeling when a year of work comes together on one weekend... Working to bring BGT 2026 to life has been an absolute privilege and I want to thank some of the wonderful people behind it:

@anaengelhorn1982 and Luca Moiso for your relentless dedication, your vision for BGT and for giving me the freedom to bring ideas and make them happen.

@gaiagiacco for taking on everything from PR and media relations to communications, marketing and a hundred things in between. Always organised, always positive, and a huge part of making everything run as smoothly as it did.

@andrea.furger and @kime011 for putting your eye, creativity and style into every image and frame. No matter how long the days and nights, there was always a joke ready.

@bornibasel , @jprathgen and @marcomakaus for all the hours behind the microphones, the live commentary, interviewing people and bringing the race to life.

The @classicdriver team @janbaedeker @lucapieripilotti and @szymon__ancymon for bringing BGT far out of the valley with great stories throughout the weekend. And for being such a great media partner ☺️

@juliestastny , @yuuk_star , Lukas, @ann.cornel , @it.is.ellen , @joanasometimes and all other helpers for coordinating what seemed like an infinite stream of guests, materials, timings, and last-minute changes and keeping all the pieces together.

And to all Drivers, Sponsors and Media friends: thank you for supporting what we are building. I hope some of you discovered a new passion for motorsport, the mountains, or both.

Sorry if I missed someone, you know who you are and I thank you! ❤️

@ethzurich spin-off @synhelion is a cleantech company developing scalable technology for renewable synthetic drop-in fuels for aviation, shipping, and road transport. The fuels can directly replace fossil fuels and require no changes to existing engines and fuel infrastructure. Produced from renewable energy and biogenic waste, they reduce net CO2 emissions by up to 100% compared with fossil fuels and support a more resilient and diversified energy supply.

Synhelion has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Morocco with the aim to develop a large-scale commercial synthetic fuel plant in the country’s southern Tan-Tan province. The facility is planned to produce 100’000 tons of renewable fuel per year. Synhelion has already secured a land reservation for the project site and established a branch, Synhelion Morocco – concrete steps toward implementation.

Technology, courage, and progress have defined Bernina Gran Turismo since the very beginning.

This year, we’re taking another step forward.
For 2026, we’re proud to welcome @synhelion as our official fuel supplier, bringing renewable synthetic gasoline to the Bernina Pass.
During the race, drivers will have the opportunity to refuel for free at the Bernina Ospizio and experience the synthetic gasoline first-hand.

Synhelion’s drop-in fuels can be used in existing vehicles without modifications and can reduce net CO₂ emissions by up to 100% compared with fossil fuels, while maintaining the performance and driving experience that make this event so special.

Preserving automotive heritage doesn’t mean standing still. It means finding new ways to carry it forward.

@ethzurich spin-off @synhelion is a cleantech company that has developed a scalable and competitive technology for producing renewable synthetic drop-in fuels for aviation, shipping, and road transport.
Synhelion’s technology enables the production of near carbon-neutral fuels that are fully compatible with today’s global fuel infrastructure and conventional combustion engines. By enabling local fuel production, the technology also reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels while strengthening energy security and resilience. 🔋

Synhelion has been selected for funding under the “Produktives.NRW” program of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), supporting the construction of a commercial demonstration plant for renewable synthetic fuels at Brainergy Park in Jülich, Germany. The program draws on around EUR 90 million in EU funding from the Just Transition Fund, which is being distributed across nine selected projects supporting industrial innovation in the Rhenish region and the northern Ruhr area.

☀️ Solar fuel is officially taking flight! ✈️
Huge congratulations to Synhelion for revolutionizing sustainable aviation! This ETH Zürich spin-off is proving that we can defossilize heavy transport using high-temperature solar heat.
Key milestones driving their momentum:

* Industrial Scale: Launched DAWN, the world's first industrial solar fuel plant in Jülich.
* Aviation First: Partnered with SWISS to integrate solar jet fuel into commercial flight operations.
* Economic Viability: Projected mass-scale production costs under €0.80/liter, matching fossil fuel economics.

By turning sunlight, water, and CO2 into drop-in synthetic fuels, they are paving the way to #netzero

ETH spin-off Synhelion has powered an excavator operated by Eberhard Unternehmungen with renewable synthetic diesel for the first time at the Brüttener Tunnel construction site near Zurich.

The fuel was produced at Synhelion’s industrial-scale DAWN plant in Germany and delivers the same performance as conventional diesel while reducing net CO₂ emissions by up to 100% - without requiring any modifications to existing engines.

The milestone highlights the potential of renewable drop-in fuels for sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as heavy construction and infrastructure.

Starting in 2027, Eberhard Bau AG plans to source larger volumes of Synhelion’s renewable diesel.

A strong example of how ETH innovation - driven by teams including Pioneer Fellowship alumnus Philipp Furler - is helping accelerate the transition to more sustainable industry solutions.

♻️ Advancing sustainable construction with solar fuels

Congratulations to @ethzurich spin-off Synhelion on signing a long-term offtake agreement with Eberhard Bau AG, one of Switzerland’s leading construction companies.

Starting in 2027, Eberhard will source renewable solar diesel from Synhelion to reduce the CO₂ emissions of its construction machinery. The agreement marks the first use of Synhelion’s solar fuels in the construction sector, expanding their impact beyond aviation, shipping, and road transport.

A strong milestone for climate innovation and a meaningful step toward defossilizing heavy-duty industries. Well done to everyone involved 👏
