🏀 Using Ball Screens vs. Zone Defense Zone defenses want to keep the ball out of the paint. A well-executed ball screen can force defenders to make decisions and create advantages. Watch how Wyoming uses the ball screen to attack the zone, create gaps, and put pressure on the defense. The key isn’t just setting the screen. It’s what happens next. ✅ Force two defenders to make a decision ✅ Create opportunities to attack downhill ✅ Find the open teammate when the defense reacts Shoot It. Drive It. Move It. 🏀 CREATE TRIPLE GAPS: Teach the Automatic. Then Give Them a Choice. One of the keys to creating better offensive spacing is teaching players how to move defenders and create bigger driving gaps. Our Slot-to-Slot Actions give players different ways to attack defensive coverage: ✅ Thru Cut (Fingers) – Our automatic cut. ✅ Nail Cut – An option against aggressive pressure. ✅ Blur Cut – Another way to attack aggressive pressure. ✅ Fan Cut – Can start as a call and eventually become a player-driven choice. The goal isn’t to memorize more plays. It’s to teach players how to recognize coverage, create space, and make the right decision. We teach the automatic first. Then we teach the choice. 🔥 Want to learn more about creating single, double, and triple gaps? Which Dribble Drive Motion spacing is right for your team? Spacing isn’t just about where players stand. It’s about creating gaps, opening driving lanes, and putting defenders in difficult decisions. Here are 3 DDM spacing options: 🏀 4-Out 1-In (Dunker Spot) – Four perimeter players with one in the dunker spot to create opportunities around the rim. 🏀 4-Out 1-In (2-Side) – Creates a two-player side while maintaining spacing and opportunities to attack gaps. 🏀 5-Out – Two slots, two corners, and one 45 (wing) to stretch the defense and open driving lanes. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Your personnel, strengths, and how you want to attack should determine your spacing. The goal isn’t just to spread the floor. It’s to create advantages and teach players how to recognize and use them. Shoot it. Drive it. Move it. Which spacing do you use with your team — 1, 2, or 3? Four minutes. Four basketballs. Compete against the clock. I like shooting drills that give players reps without removing the competitive piece. Four-Minute Shooting is simple: Shoot → rebound → pass → sprint to the opposite end. Now the shooting has a consequence, a pace, and a team goal. Set four minutes on the clock and track the number of made 3s. What number could your team hit?

The Drag Corner Cut is a simple basketball action that creates a bigger driving gap for the ball handler coming off a drag ball screen. As the corner player cuts through, the stretch player fills the corner. That movement forces the defense to make a decision while creating more space for the ball handler to attack downhill. This is what we want from our offensive actions: 🏀 Create bigger gaps 🏀 Generate paint touches 🏀 Maintain proper spacing 🏀 Force defensive decisions 🏀 Create layups, free throws and open 3s Don’t just run a ball screen. Use player movement and spacing to create the advantage. Shoot it. Drive it. Move it. Helping Coaches Build Better Systems. systembasketball.com

🏀 POSTING UP YOUR GUARDS IN DDM Your post player doesn’t always have to be your biggest player. Out of our 4-Out 1-In Dribble Drive spacing, we can use movement to get a guard isolated at the rim: ➡️ 5 flashes to the nail ➡️ 4 dives hard to the front of the rim ➡️ 5 looks inside for 4 The idea isn’t to create a bigger gap—it’s to create the matchup, seal it, and attack the advantage. A coach asked me for one of my favorite sets against teams that face-guard your best shooter. Here’s a simple answer: Put your shooter in the dunker spot and set a pindown toward the middle of the floor. Now the defender has to navigate traffic while your shooter comes directly into the scoring area with multiple options: 🏀 Catch and shoot 🏀 Curl to the rim 🏀 Hit the screener on the slip 🏀 Attack the closeout If a defense wants to deny your shooter everywhere, make them defend an action instead of just chasing. We pass through singles, drive through doubles, and hunt triples. 🏀 Shallow Wave is a great example of hunting a triple. Instead of simply standing in spacing, we use cutting and screening actions to create the biggest possible gaps for downhill attacks, paint touches, and spray opportunities. That’s what our Wave Series is built to do: create movement that creates advantages. Want to see more of the Wave Series and how we teach it? 👇 Comment WAVE and I’ll send you the details.
