Title: Stone Matsu
Artist: Hui-Ying Tsai
Time: Oct. 17th. 2026. 2-3pm
Location: Governor's Island, NYC
She crosses.
She waits.
She walks.
She meets the Statue of Liberty.
She beats with hair, the wind delivers.
The chain undone with the throw, she carries water up with the trophy that links between her legs.
They offer life to the stone.
The Stone is god, god is all around and within us.
Videographer by @chyanzlo
Big thank you to @taac2014 for hosting the performance, full perfofmance video on view from Oct. 23rd. in House 17, Nolan Park, Governor's Island

Reflecting on the shared experience in the immigrant community, “Pending Pause” is a multimedia work to discuss borders set on land and rivers to divide nations and ourselves. Human beings build up boundaries to mark possession, secure resources, and claim rights while nature flows around us to share air, water, and light. The installation gives the audience the illusion of access to the view, but with a barrier stating no full permission at the point. It encourages people to further reflect on the impact of human-built system structures accessibility and categorizes entities.

Hope to see you there!
🛥🗽🌊🏡
Stone Matsu is a participatory performance inspired by Matsu, Taiwan’s revered sea goddess and protector of travelers, that juxtaposes the Statue of Liberty, which welcomes immigrants. Beginning at the northwest Governors Island ferry dock, Hui-Ying Tsai leads the Matsu parade to meet with Statue of Liberty on a journey across the island to TAAC House 17. The performance brings together migration, protection, memory, and solidarity between islands, arriving at House 17 where an afternoon of live music and live printmaking will follow.

I’ve always believed that art is a way of understanding the world beyond what words can explain.

My studio practice is an ongoing conversation with nature, a search for the invisible connections between all living things, between the inner and outer worlds, between what we know and what we can only intuit.

-Sep 🌕🎂💜-
My birthday week/ month went FAST. I was working on my new installation, preparing for a workshop, and wanting to celebrate on the other hand. Feeling grateful to have moments with friends and a “day-off” to just walk around and bake myself a cake! (It was a “Dubai” chocolate cake with strawberries on the top..🍓💚🍫🍰✨)

Thanks to the Taiwanese American Arts Council @taac2014 for another year. And yes one more performance scheduled this Sat on Governors Island @governorsisland 🩶🩵🧡
