Artist Spotlight | Katie Ebben Smith ✨

We’re shining a spotlight on Katie Ebben Smith, one of our exhibiting artists at Pittenweem Arts Festival 2026.

Katie’s featured painting, Rushing towards Stillness, explores the quiet moment where movement gives way to calm.

What does exhibiting at Pittenweem Arts Festival mean to you?

“It’s my favourite kind of treasure hunt – behind every door is a surprise. It is incredibly special to show my work at such a unique event in an old doctor’s surgery that is now a home. Bringing my paintings into this space filled with its own history and everyday life makes the whole festival experience feel so grounded and personal.”

What inspires your practice right now?

“I am captivated by the tension between movement and stillness. That fleeting second where a crashing wave surrenders its energy and dissolves into absolute calm. It is a visual search for a deep breath – translating the moody, shifting light of our coast into a moment of pure mental quiet.”

What’s one thing exhibiting your work has taught you?

“It taught me how art breaks down walls between strangers. Having people walk into the space and dive into friendly, surprisingly open conversations is the best part of the festival. Those genuine connections show me that sharing art is an invitation to talk, listen and share a moment – and I love that.”

Read Katie’s story, then come and experience her work for yourself during this year’s festival.

I've been working on making something to solve the age old problem of brushes rolling onto the floor or messing up the table. These brush holders are thrown on the wheel and do the job really well. Also road tested by local artist @tabletandhaar (studio pics to follow!). Good for trimming tools too! Available in 2 sizes.
