JUNE ☀️

It’s been real..HOT…It’s been really fucking hot.

After a very busy end to the student year, we are now entering Withington’s fallow period. Please stick with us and keep visiting because we are using this time to trial some new stuff and get our ducks in a row before the swarm again in September. It’s arguably the most creative period to visit SMP and we have some outstanding new guest coffees coming into the shop ☕️

Here’s our shop playlist to celebrate the month [LINK IN BIO]

Notable occurrences throughout June include (in no particular order) ~

• Welcoming @stickyfingersstockport to the counter

• Enjoying @apricity.roasting @drinkrish & @allcaps_coffee as our guest coffee offerings

• Enjoying our newly installed A/C unit (I cannot recommend it enough and have considered sleeping in the café some nights, genuinely)

• New Merch

• Some lovely drinks specials by our newest addition to the cafe @madisonyoungxo . You’ll be seeing lots of her. She’s mint and is fast giving me a run for my money on music curation.

• A small army of tortoises. This collection is getting outa hand, but we can’t thank you enough for dropping them off all the time.

• A lovely Lino print by @ria.mistry_art , we have grand plans for it :)

• Couldn’t let last month end without mentioning the amazing skirt and slippers combo worn by @spgordoncole . Forever pushing out the fashion boat and forever looking DOPE 🤙🏽

I hosted a coffee open house ☕🏠
The highlight of the day for me was that Ralph, Taheer & Mini cheered me on to do some pourovers (uh- ngl pourovers still make me anxious), so I can only imagine how exciting next year's gonna be 🥹 We ended up with ~5 rounds of filter almost nonstop. It was so fun; we've agreed to do another & hopefully next time we can have the full squad together :)

We hosted another great event in Manchester yesterday. Great coffees, great vibes, and many interesting questions. We had people make their first ever pour over and they nailed it!

The first session was a cupping with @seriescoffeeroasters from Bali. A fun slurping session with all the information and some tasting wheels. A lot of people had not tried Indonesian origins and they were surprised some of the coffees.

The second session was a triangulation with coffees from @tiltedcoffeeroasters. The coffees were sweet, clean, and not too easy to distinguish. However, most people got a couple right after helping them to spot some differences. Thanks to everyone who buddied up to teach some stuff.

Finally, the third session was a brew demo by @barista_nat with coffee from @missioncoffeeworks. Another clean, sweet coffee. It wasn't too difficult to brew, which was ideal, because some people had never made a pourover before.

I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who was so caring and attentive last night. It was a new environment for a lot of people, but everyone seemed pretty comfortable after a few slurps, there was a lot of chatting and communication. Thanks to @uomcoffeesociety for having us and thanks to @alternativecoffeeuk and @thegivingtreemcr.

See you again soon. Chester this Sunday! Thanks for an incredible few weeks. We had some massive events.

Coffee has a way of slowing time.
A table, a few cups, strangers leaning in
and suddenly we’re talking, tasting, listening. ☕️

Few more shots from the cupping at @thegivingtreemcr hosted my @alternativecoffeeuk and @slurpsupukandire thank you @thisladlovescoffee for having us as always 🙏🏻✨☕️

Another cracking cupping at @thegivingtreemcr ☕️✨
Big love to @alternativecoffeeuk @slurpsupukandire for putting the event together and creating such a great space to taste, chat and geek out over coffee.
Always a pleasure shooting events like this — amazing people, beautiful coffees, and plenty of slurping all round.

Last night we hosted a blind cupping with coffees from @offshootcoffee. Thanks to @thegivingtreemcr for having us, and thanks to @alternativecoffeeuk for hosting and providing the equipment. Offshoot provided some interesting samples for us to taste.

We know it was a tough table, but a lot of the coffees were from sought after lots and producers. So we wanted to give people the opportunity to see how the processing impacts the flavour.

We knew some people would struggle with the glasses. So we set up a rest table with a few other coffees. It's just a taste of some of the things we do in coffee. We may do this at a roastery to cup without bias, or to practice for tasting competitions, etc.

The tamest coffee on the table was a natural Gesha from Finca Ethiopia, right up to WBC style coffee with @jonathangascaserna thermal shock Pacamara. Which is quite similar to some Ombligon we cupped recently. Old friends @natchacoffeeprocess had three coffees on the table.

We had some fun prizes for the top score. Including a @ni.wares Bouba and some @wilton.benitez92 thermal shock SL28 from Offshoot. Second and third got a bag of @atriumcoffeemcr's new coffee releases each.

Thanks to everyone who turned out, we know there's a lot happening. It makes us happy to see so many people bringing so much energy to coffee tastings. Last night was one of our favourite events that we have organised.

Sorry if the video was a little lacklustre. I was busy chatting to people.

On Friday, @atriumcoffeemcr hosted @slurpsupukandire in Manchester! We aim to put more fun coffees in front of more people, and our first events have been a hit with attendees.

Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come out on a cold night in Manchester. There were a fair few coffee professionals there in Manchester.

We're very grateful that people have been happy to host Slurps Up. Of course, we couldn't do this event with the generosity of all the roasteries.

We've cupped some beautiful coffees this week. Thanks for all the suggestions. Hopefully, some of these variatals, roasters, and processes were new to you.
