Some evenings conjured a glow that stays with you.

It’s been a few days since the Rebel Loon Gala, but the sense of staunch friendship in a soaring, glimmering space has not faded.

Saint Paul’s Landmark Center has presented over rice Park for 124 years. Last Thursday night, we gathered there in migratory splendor to honor Minnesota history that is still unfolding. Art made during Operation Metro Surge filled the hall. There was a feast from Indigena by Owamni: maple, chili, squash, WOJAPI, bison, and chocolate sweet potato donuts.

Coffee and Minnesota mocktails came from Jenni‘s Café, and loon vases filled with flowers graced every table. #at our table: the charming artist behind the open-sourced Rebel loon that has become the iconic symbol of Minnesota resistance.

artists created new work as we stroll the silent auction. Most memorably, Minnesotans who joined voices online through the hardest months, embraced in person for the first time.

Erica, the founder of the Rebel Loon Archive, called the joy in the midst of grief and fear. That is exactly right. It was not an evening of pretending all is well. It was an evening of affirming that every act of courage from last winter still matters, and every artwork telling those stories is worth preserving.

thank you to the artist, volunteers, and businesses who gave so generously. To Ramsey County historical Society for opening its doors, and to everyone who volunteered their time, bid on a basket, bought a ticket, or simply showed up dressed for the occasion. Thank you for believing that this history deserves to be preserved as we live it.

The gala butterflies have been tucked away. In their place, our threads of deepen connection, appreciation, and commitment.

The North remembers.

And just like that, our Swingposium in Minnesota run is done. We couldn’t have done this without our incredible partners from @taikoarts, @theatermu, and the Hopkins High School and Minnesota Youth Jazz Band. Thank you to everyone who attended this weekend, shared your energy and stories, and danced with us. This project holds a very special place in our hearts telling a story that hits home for us and our Japantown community. We can’t wait to take it back on the road in the future!
