We touched the clouds. 🏔️ We hunted for gold. We explored the Garden of the Gods and cliff dwellings. We hiked and ran on trails. We bouldered on rocks. We ate 🍑s at the farmers market. We even crossed paths with two other couples who went to @luthercollege!
This was our second family trip to Colorado and this time we chose Colorado Springs. Success! #familyvacation #coloradosprings #pikespeak #gardenofthegods #shugarestaurant

My new #running podcast is with @adam.bohach and Flannery Cerbin-Bohach, both former @lutherxctf standouts. They come on the podcast to talk about their recent races as part of the @grandmasmarathon weekend in Duluth, Minnesota. Adam dropped 10 more seconds off of his Iowa masters record for the marathon and talks about his pursuit of other Iowa records. Flannery, a top Iowa distance runner for many years, is asked the same question about her goals as she approaches age 40 in December. The @runablazeiowa and @runablazewomen team members talk about how business at @tailwindacres,
their farm in rural Cresco, impacts their racing calendar and about their upcoming Runners' Retreat. They speak about enjoying a farm-to-table food lifestyle. Adam talks about leaving the teaching profession a year ago and his work as a massage therapy specialist. They tell of the frequent challenge to find time to squeeze in workouts between their work schedules and parenting. They give their views on @luthercollege's move away from the @americanriversconference. They also describe their why in running as middle-age runners. Listen on @spotify and search for The Run Around Iowa.

One week post @grandmasmarathon and these legs haven’t run a single step. That may not be a surprise to most, but in the last 20 months the longest break from running I’ve had was 4 days following the @indymonumental marathon in November. That doesn’t mean I’ve been sitting still. My heart has pulled me back to the bike and I’ve been eating gravel dust when time allows. Otherwise, Flannery and I have been working our tails off on the farm - prepping for a wedding @tailwindacres this weekend.

After a few long days of farm work I was feeling like a marathon would be easier than this. We are both realizing the toll it takes to race at our best while managing all the physical labor on the farm, especially during spring planting and fall harvesting. The week before @damtodsm we planted 3,000 flowers using our hands, a butter knife and Dewalt drill. The week before @grandmasmarathon I hand dug 300ft of sod to bury a rabbit fence. The challenge is balancing it all and allowing ourselves some grace when a workout or race doesn’t go as well as we hoped ofr. Despite putting in all the work and executing a perfect race plan, all the hard work only goes so far without the recovery. In our current life, recovery is a rarity.

For all we do, Flannery and I came to Duluth last weekend with purpose. Flannery ran a near 6 mile personal best in the first 6 miles of her half marathon. She began experiencing unusual muscle cramps and “faded” to 25th place in a stacked field. The pain and heart break are captured poetically in photo.

All my previous races this season came up short of my goals and suggested I’d be lucky to break 2:30. Happily I came away with a 2:28:01 and 3rd overall in masters category earning $1000. Painfully I came up two seconds short of the $500 bonus for breaking 2:28:00.

This was my last marathon attempt in 2026. My next marathon will be @bostonmarathon 2027 in April. #leveragebetter #runablazeiowa #farmstrong
