Finally tried the viral @take.abre and it's totally worth the hype! The outside is crispy, the inside is fluffy and it's stuffed full of PB. 10/10 would recommend, but do make sure you eat it quickly cos the crispness doesn't really last.

Waffles lean towards cafe style, fluffy with a slight crisp that gets soft fast, i rly enjoyed it but it’s defo not ur neighbourhood kueh like waffle some may expect. Ppl r rly not kidding about the amt of fillings tho!!! So much that I felt I needed more waffles to go w it >< but this choice of fillings was rly gd bcos the tangy cream cheese balanced the red bean’s sweetness well, else the red bean itself would’ve been too sweet. And both were served cold so it felt like ice cream on waffles. Recommend sharing so you can satisfy ur cravings without it getting jelak
⭐️: 9/10

Actl a v solid waffle place id come down to try the salted egg+pork floss and maybe pistachio, or just go back to this combo cos it’s so gd

(Nearest MRT: Chinatown; 5–10 minutes’ walk from Exit A)

Shu Fen’s delightfully crispy waffles with generous fillings have been taking social media by storm lately. Having finally tried one, I can say without hesitation that this is the best freshly made waffle I’ve had.

Spoilt for choice, I eventually went for the Pistachio Kunafa Waffle. I watched as Shu Fen mixed the batter from scratch before ladling it onto the waffle maker. It’s a unique recipe she formulated together with her sister!

Once the timer went off, she took the waffle out and placed it in front of a fan to cool (a step I’ve never seen before). Then she slathers on a generous layer of pistachio kunafa spread.

The first bite won me over immediately. The waffle was wonderfully fragrant, with a firm, crisp shell giving way to a warm and airy interior. Paired with the thick, nutty pistachio spread and the delicate crunch of the kunafa, every bite was immensely satisfying. After a few bites, I brought the rest home to share with my family, and even after reheating it in the oven, the waffle regained that lovely crispness. Everyone loved it!

Take a Brè is a lovely reminder that good food need not be expensive when it’s made with heart, care and passion.

@take.abre is seriously generous with the fillings she packs into these thick waffles. From sweet to savoury, there are so many combinations to choose from, I don’t think anyone can beat her when it comes to the sheer variety of fillings you can get here!

finally made it down not once, but twice to @take.abre at chinatown to get some of the heftiest waffles 👀 just look at the amount of filling they slather on the waffles (this is the standard amount I didn’t ask for more! 🥹)

the waffle isn’t too heavy and is crispy on the edges. pastry chef yu shufen, who helms the store, uses a fan to cool the waffles down (last pic) and lets them sit for a bit before adding the filling. they have a wide variety of both sweet & savory fillings.

we tried the pistachio kunafe ($5) and cream cheese red bean ($4.50, double filling). the pistachio kunafe is v crunchy and on the sweeter side for me, and I think would be perfect if I added on a thin layer of savoury pure pistachio spread on the other side.

I ended up preferring the cream cheese red bean! the red bean was mostly smooth and about 10-20% semi mashed up. I initially hesitated on getting this as I was afraid the red bean would be too sweet but it’s not!! 🥹🫶 the red bean went well with the slightly savory cream cheese and i enjoyed that the cream cheese came chilled so the fillings did not turn liquidy and flow out.

definitely worth a try jf you’re craving waffles 🧇 if you have a flavour that you love from them, let us know!!

p.s. they are r&ding new flavours so keep a lookout ✨

Sweet Treats in Chinatown! 🧇✨
Chinatown just got a whole lot sweeter! Checked out Take A Brè (@take.abre) at Unit 11 Trengganu St, and tried out two of their unique waffle creations. If you are looking for your next dessert spot, here is the honest review:

What I Tried:
Salted Egg & Chicken Floss Waffles ($5.50)

The Vibe: A savory-sweet dream for adventurous eaters.

Verdict: The rich, savory salted egg sauce pairs surprisingly well with the fluffy waffles, while the chicken floss adds that essential crisp texture and umami kick. Great balance of flavors!

Pistachio Kunafa & Peanut Butter Waffles ($6.00)

The Vibe: Decadent, nutty, and trendy.

Verdict: A fusion of rich pistachio kunafa goodness and creamy peanut butter. It is definitely on the heavier side, making it the ultimate indulgence for sweet tooths.

The Verdict
Affordable, packed with unique flavor combinations, and located right in the heart of town—perfect for a post-dinner dessert run!

🧇💚Take a break, have a waffle from Take A Brè @take.abre~ This small waffle kiosk is located just outside Chinatown Complex and has a good variety of sweet & savory flavors to go with their thick & piping hot waffles.

Went in with no expectations & got mine with Pistachio Kunafa flavor, but fell in love with the waffle texture! It’s lightly crisp on the outside and you get a slightly dense and kueh-like texture with every bite. It may not have the prominent pandan fragrance you’d get in some popular waffle places, but I feel that it’s less cloying & lets the flavors of the ingredients shine through better. While the generously spread pistachio filling isn’t homemade, it’s creamy & not too sweet with a solid crunch from the kunafa pastry bits.

Always nice to have a simple, affordable snack option while exploring Chinatown~✨
