Tim Proberts Lightfall is a beautiful story of finding hope and courage in the times it’s most limited.

Beatrice finds a race she thought of as extinct, a Galdurian, in a new friendship with Cadwallader. They are then thrown into a tense battle to save the world, but will their new found friendship be strong enough for the world of Irpa to rely upon?

Despite it’s bright and airy beautiful illustrations, Lightfall is a remarkably deep story, not shying away from the darker subjects we all find outselves battling with. I especially liked the way Bea’s anxiety was portrayed, almost as a character in it’s own right, as things can get a little heavy at times, but met with Cad’s optimism, it won’t upset our younger readers too much.

The overall arc so far of the story is absolutely amazing, as far reaching as can be, and I can’t wait for my daughter to catch up so we can talk theories of what we’ll get next.

Aside from the stories, the illustrations are a MEGA star here. I’ve not spent so long living in the illustrations that serve the story in a long time, with the last time being the first Hilda book, which has been a mainstay in my library since, as will Lightfall be.

Tim’s work here has inspired me to no end, and since finishing book 4, it’s got me to pick a pencil and paper up again!

Thank you to @novel.tours and @harper360uk for including me on this tour, here’s looking forward to book 5!

✨ Lightfall Series by Tim Probert ✨

I am partial to a whimsical graphic novel every once in a while and this one had everything I needed.

Lightfall is cosy fantasy chaos in the best way. Bea’s an anxious girlie, Cad’s a golden-retriever companion, and together they stumble through mystical forests, ancient magic, and world ending hyjinx. There’s also a Pig Wizard, I mean, what more could you need 🐷🧙🏻

The art style is stunning and is what initially drew me to these books. The full cast of characters and creatures are adorable (almost all of them 👀) and the whole thing feels like a warm hug while taking on an epic quest across the realm.

I won’t give any spoilers for book 4, but I loved how the tension grew throughout the story and the quest without losing any of the whimsy and the fun elements.

The series has a reading age of 8-12 and is a perfect middle grade read. But anyone of any age could enjoy! Reading has no limit.

Thank you to @novel.tours for organising this epic book tour, and to, of course, @timprobert & @harper360uk 💖

Y'all know that VOIDWALKER was one of my surprise favourite reads of last year, and I am absolutely frothing over every little detail Sarah is feeding the street team about SUNSPLITTER.

Speaking of details, are you flipping kidding me with all of them on this cover?? Fi's new hair colour?? Both their feet poppin'?? Tail hug??? Twilight colouring??

Daddy Antlers would hate all of this. Delightful.

If somehow you haven't heard me yapping about this, you can expect SUNSPLITTER to have:
🪶 F/M bi4bi romance
🪶 Dual POV
🪶 Monster romance
🪶 Meet the parents
🪶 Horse girl with a sword
🪶 Wet cat love interest
🪶 "Touch her/him and die"

❓️What's something good that's happened for you this week?

Slags by Emma Jane Unsworth
[AD - GIFTED]

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

I read this as part of a readalong for @wordswineandwitbookclub and would like to thank the author @emjaneunsworth and @boroughpress for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having not read any of this author’s books before, I didn’t quite know what to expect going into this one. But I really really enjoyed it.

The story flicks between chapters in a modern day third person perspective of the main character Sarah and her sister Juliette on a road trip in Scotland, and chapters from the first person perspective of Sarah as a teenager. I think this technique worked particularly well for this novel, as you begin to understand that Sarah’s big dreams when she was a teenager didn’t quite work out the way she wanted. Of course the reader understands the naïvety of teenagers, but it doesn’t stop even the funny parts of the novel being overshadowed by a feeling of sadness for Sarah.

I have to praise the author’s ability to find a clear narrative voice for Sarah as a teenager, as I think writing in the perspective of a child is particularly difficult thing to get right. It was really interesting to read her escapades in Manchester with her best friend Nessa, who I actually couldn’t stop picturing as Nessa from Gavin and Stacey but just a few decades younger.

There have been lots of books published in recent years about teenagers and older men, making it quite difficult for these stories to stand out to me. However, Slags added something different, and this was not just a book about a girl and her teacher - it goes so far beyond that.

There are a couple of plot twists toward the end of the book. No spoilers here - but I saw the first one coming yet not the second, which I like to think is what the author intended. I also enjoyed the commentary on sister relationships, and those with family more generally. There are some beautiful quotes in there and lots of moments that really make you stop and think about your own life.
