POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The @talkingsplit team are joined on the pod this week by Nick Ferrier, a psychologist at Cede Nullis Psychology to discuss the post game conversation. It can be a point of tension for you as parents, players, coaches, and the hardest one of them all, parent coaches. In this pod they discuss how to make sure the love of the game and the relationship stays as strong as possible for everyone involved, with practical advice on how to make sure everyone has the best outcome by knowing what to say, and how to walk back anything that may have caused harm.

This week the @talkingsplit crew were joined by Will Vickery, Senior Advisor from the Australian Sports Commission, to talk about what success looks like for coaches from the grassroots level, through to the high performance level. This is part of a broader study that Will is working on, trying to better understand how coaches conceptualise success at the level they're coaching at.

The @talkingsplit crew recap the SDP Nando Cup (sponsorship pending, enquire within) from the weekend, where each of the Country Hubs went head-to-head with a few different rules thrown into the mix. They then dive into selection trials, which will be here before we know it, looking at the process through the player, parent and coaching lens, while also trying to clear up a few of the myths that might be out there.

There’s rarely a quiet time in the Pathways Department, and lately has been no exception. The @talkingsplit crew catch up on Zoe’s travels with the Sapphires to the Czech Republic for the World Cup, followed by the Victoria Select girls team in Korea, while Dave headed to China with the Victoria Select boys team. They unpack the different styles of play experienced internationally, how they relate back to coaches in local programs, and what can be taken from the international game when it comes to playing style and skill development.

This week on @talkingsplit, Rob shamelessly borrows some content from another podcast as a launching pad to explore the trends emerging across gameplay, skill development, and coaching styles. Meanwhile, Nick is fully backing the Knicks to make the NBA Finals, and Zoe makes a strong push to take over the “Rob’s Rants” mantle for herself.

It’s National Volunteer Week, so the @talkingsplit crew dive into the highs and challenges faced by grassroots coaches. It might sound like a throwaway line, but the sport simply wouldn’t exist without the time, effort, and commitment of coaches at all levels. A huge thank you to everyone who gives up their time - and in some cases their hairlines - to support players who love the game!

Sometimes it’s a quote that sticks with you, shaping the way you coach and even how you approach life. The @talkingsplit crew have plenty to unpack this week, with Jenna’s send-off ahead of maternity leave, Rob’s Rants returning with Macklemore in his sights, and somehow landing on everyone’s favourite wrestling intro songs. Got a favourite quote? Drop it in the comments for others to see!

Another week, another podcast debutant, with Metro State Development Coach Nathan Geer joining the @talkingsplit crew. This week, they revisit a piece of coach education that’s been circulating for a few years, encouraging coaches to think more like a farmer. They explore ideas around weeds, fertiliser, the environment, and why shouting - whether at players or plants - isn’t the best way to promote growth.
