I understand 2016 was one of the last years many of us felt any modicum of hope or normalcy regarding politics and the direction of the world, so I get the trend.
However, personally? 2016 was awful. I was finalizing a divorce, and had a few sucky relationships follow. In July alone, I broke my foot, Prim ate 3/4 tub of baking chocolate, and Prim and Toki ran away overnight. My car was totaled by a woman who ran a red light in October, and that’s barely scratching the surface of all the crazy stuff that happened that year. 😅
I say all this and also want to acknowledge that 2016 also brought a lot of love and support to my life. My home became the landing place for two friends who were temporarily out of a home, I had two roommates who were great (including @beeeteee who isn’t pictured here!) Lots of friends and fellow artists came to visit and they truly were the reason I made it through it all. So here is a little trip back to some of the good aspects of 2016, and celebrating never having to go back and live it again.

The Blue Ridge, part of the Appalachian range, was created by the uplifting of the Earth’s tectonic plates 1.1 billion to 250 million years ago. At over 1 billion years of age, the Blue Ridge Mountains are among the oldest in the world, second only to South Africa’s Barberton greenstone belt.

North Carolina’s Blue Ridge region includes the tallest mountains in the Eastern United States, includes 30+ peaks that tower about 6,000 feet. The NC Blue Ridge also includes the two most visited national parks in the country, Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are perceived as shades of blue due to a common chemical released by the native trees that scatters blue light from the sun.

Since Punxsutawney Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter, we thought we’d share a cozy indoor craft from @elle.cree.pdx for you to enjoy.

These beautiful @elle.cree.pdx paint-by-number kits are designed and manufactured in Portland, Oregon by illustrator Rachel Austen.

The acrylic paints are all mixed in-house, in custom colors and are non-toxic. In fact, @elle.cree.pdx strives to use locally sourced components and USA made materials whenever possible. (A company truly after our hearts over here.) 🇺🇸

Their original paint by number kits contain one 8”x10” canvas, acrylic paint, a set of three brushes and detailed instructions. So everything you need! They now offer adorable 5”x7” card sets as well. (And we all know getting a hand-painted card via snail mail would be oh so welcomed these days 💕)

After I took some (pretty up close and personal) photos of this Bison herd; I read they were listed as the most dangerous animal in Yellowstone. So that’s cute 😅
