Get to know our 2026 St. Cecilia Award recipient, Fr. Malachy Napier, CFR.

Fr. Malachy Joseph Napier, CFR, was born in Augusta, Georgia, and is the second of eight children. He entered the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in 2008, professed solemn vows in 2014, and was ordained to the priesthood in 2020.

He has been involved with Arthouse2B since its beginning. As a founding chaplain, he helped establish and lead Arthouse2B’s first Mass for Artists in the fall of 2020. After two years of serving in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, he returned to New York City in 2022. He is based at St. Joseph’s Friary in Harlem, and serves as one of more than fifty National Eucharistic preachers appointed by the U.S. Bishops for the National Eucharistic Revival.

“Jesus Christ, the Beautiful One, continually draws human hearts to divine life through beauty. I’ve been blessed to witness how Arthouse2B shares in this mission, drawing many artists into a renewed encounter with Christ and His Church and giving them a home where their faith and vocation as artists are both stirred into flame. If ‘beauty will save the world,’ then this is the place where these beauty-makers' own hearts are being healed and restored through the love of God. What a gift to witness this spiritual and artistic renewal!”

He helped bring this revival to artists through Arthouse2B by shepherding the first Arthouse2B Retreat for Artists in 2023, Behold the Beautiful One, which has since become an annual source of renewal for artists in the city and beyond. Himself a musician and writer, Fr. Malachy has shared his heart and his artistic gifts with the Arthouse2B community and continues to serve as a spiritual father to the ministry.

We are honored to confer this year’s St. Cecilia Award to Fr. Malachy in gratitude for his extraordinary support of Arthouse2B and the artists we serve.

In today’s feast day, I’m grateful for the opportunity we had to produce this documentary for The Augustine Institute on Father Solanus Casey.

I first learned about him when I started working for the Archdiocese of Detroit and later attending his beatification and Ford Field. I often think of one of his favorite sayings “Blessed be God in all His designs.” He has been such an inspiration in my life and his words have helped me through some rough patches.

Father Solanus, pray for us! Help us abandon ourselves to God’s providence and trust His plans.

A few days ago, I texted a friend, “It’s been a year.”
Not a year of busyness or achievements—but of everything God allowed to unfold.

This was my first full year working full-time as an entrepreneur, after leaving a role I loved deeply in the Church. I began with hope and trust that God would provide. What I didn’t expect was that He would ask for something deeper: surrender—not just of outcomes, but of how I lead, how I love, and how I understand success.

It was a year of real loss and real grace.
The end of a business partnership.
Entering therapy and spiritual direction for the first time.
Learning to trust God’s mercy for my past and His providence for my future.
Discovering that Christian leadership is measured less by excellence than by love.

Two things anchored me.
A hymn my son kept singing—“They’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
And praying with Caravaggio’s The Incredulity of Saint Thomas, realizing the Risen Christ chose to keep His wounds.

Those truths changed how I see my work, my team, and my own brokenness. They changed the company I lead. And they changed me.

I wrote a longer reflection about this year—about pain, healing, friendship, creativity, and God’s quiet presence when I couldn’t yet see it. It’s more personal than I usually share, but I felt compelled to put it into words.

If you’ve had a year that stripped things away or asked more of you than you expected, maybe this will resonate.

Full reflection is on Substack.
