The Nalu Film Foundation is a new grassroots mission dedicated to preserving surf history and inspiring the future. We aim to save, restore, and share the iconic images that mean so much to our surf tribe.

@nalufilmfoundation

It’s the surf movies, the raw film and video footage, the still photos; all of these visuals have the power to connect us to the ocean, surfing, and remind us of our deep love and appreciation for it all. Let’s make sure all these images are still here for our generation and future generations.

The Nalu Film Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and accepts donations to support the mission.

After Tamayo @emiliaperry passed I simply went to quiet. I had been making his boards since he was 13. He was the most loyal team rider I’ve ever had. All of his career people tried to give him boards. But he stuck with me. I was his first sponsor . Our relationship was amazing, always pushing for better boards. We learned so much together. Pipe was his playground. Always pushing the limits. Such a beautiful journey. @tamayoperryfoundation . He was like my son, and he called me his 2nd dad. Thank you Thomas . I miss him everyday 🙏🏽❤️❤️

Two years ago today, Hawaii lost Tamayo Perry.

He was a husband, brother, friend, uncle, neighbor, and lifeguard, a man who embraced every role with gratitude and aloha. As a lifeguard on the North Shore, he saved countless lives. People felt safe on the days he was on duty.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

His mission continues through the Tamayo Perry Foundation, giving Hawaii’s kids access to swim lessons and water safety education so his legacy keeps saving lives.

Aloha Friday means putting all those hard-earned skills to the test for the Jr. Guards at Ala Moana! 💪🌊 @honoluluoceansafety

After a week of training, these keiki gave it their all as they demonstrated a variety of rescue techniques in a fun and challenging relay. From rescue tubes and rescue boards to boogie board rescues, they showcased the skills they’ve been working on all week.

Of course, the instructors couldn’t resist joining in on the action, adding a little friendly competition and plenty of laughs along the way!

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for the Jr. Guards to take a ride on the rescue watercraft with incredible operators, giving them a firsthand look at another important ocean safety tool.

The week wrapped up with certificates of completion, recognizing the dedication, effort, and growth each participant showed throughout the program. Outstanding awards were presented in honor of Tamayo Perry through the Tamayo Perry Foundation. Mahalo for your continued commitment to water safety and for helping carry on Tamayo’s legacy @tamayoperryfoundation

A special mahalo as well to Dukes for providing a delicious bento lunch for these hardworking Jr. Guards as they celebrated an incredible week of learning, teamwork, and ocean safety. @dukeswaikiki

Congratulations to all of our Jr. Guards—we can’t wait to see where these skills take you next! 🤙
