We are so excited to announce a very special opportunity for a scholarship for one student this fall session for ISR Swim Lessons with @ninaalenabeatty

You will need to act fast, as lessons begin very soon. Please read this entire post if applying for the scholarship.

Who is this for?
Children ages 6 months- 6 years old.

Where?
At a private residence in the Sunset Beach area on the North Shore.

What is Infant Swimming Resource?
ISR Swim Lessons teach survival swimming lessons for children ages 6-months to 6-years-old. Their primary goal is teaching children to save themselves by floating on their backs or floating and swimming to find safety. They also educate the whole family on water safety, supervision, pool alarms, etc.

What is required from you?
Express financial need to cover swim lesson cost. Please submit a couple of paragraphs on why this scholarship would really help you right now? How survival swim lessons would benefit your family?

What is the schedule like?
Lessons are 5 days/week, 10 minutes/ day, for 6-8 weeks. Consistency is required to see results.

Lessons are Monday-Friday, approximate time between 11am-2pm. You will have the same lesson time daily.

Tamayo Perry is riding the old-school POV camera system that Larry Haynes rigged. Nowadays, the GoPros and other small digital cameras capture all the action with ease. Capturing surf action back then was challenging, and we are honored to have the LARRY HAYNES ARCHIVES safe in the Nalu Vault and under the NALU FILM FOUNDATION.

Reef, one of the recipients of a scholarship from the @tamayoperryfoundation, came up and said “I feel like I could go farther.”
I am so proud of him for getting to the point of discomfort and then taking 2 more steps. Did you see that?!
@watergroms wants to give kids the opportunity to learn safety, push themselves a little and work together to gain confidence and control in and out of the water.

Two years ago, we lost Tamayo.
We don’t need to explain the heaviness of that day—everyone felt it. It was a tragic shock that thrust us into a new reality we never wanted to accept.
Soon after Tamayo’s passing, rainbows began appearing everywhere. For weeks, we saw them wherever we went. They seemed to follow me. Then, while looking through Tamayo’s phone, we discovered that the last photo he took was of a rainbow. This picture..
“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.” — Genesis 9:13
We know where Tamayo is. He is where he always knew he would be. His faith in the Lord and trust in God’s plan never wavered.
Tamayo was a husband, a brother, a friend, an uncle, a neighbor, and a lifeguard. He embraced every role with gratitude, humility, and love. As a lifeguard, he saved countless lives. He loved his job, and when Tamayo was on duty, people felt safe.
Today, through the Tamayo Perry Foundation, his mission continues. The Foundation is committed to ensuring that all children have access to Junior Lifeguard programs by first giving them the ability to swim. Through free swim lessons and water safety education, Tamayo continues to save lives. His legacy lives on in every child who gains confidence in the water, every family that finds opportunity, and every life made safer because of his example.

The Tamayo Perry Foundation held its official launch party and first fundraiser earlier this year at the Distillery. What an epic night!
We are honored to continue Tamayo’s legacy by carrying forward his dream of connecting local youth to the ocean.
The evening featured surf films, live music, and a silent auction which included two of Tamayo’s surfboards. It was our chance to bring the man community together in support of this important mission.
Mahalo to everyone who attended, donated, and supported us. Because of your generosity, we’ve been able to build an incredible foundation in our first year.
Through swim lessons, scholarships, and support for City & County Junior Lifeguard Programs, we are creating opportunities for local youth to develop confidence, ocean safety skills, and a lifelong connection to the water just as Tamayo envisioned.
We are deeply grateful for your support and excited for the impact we will continue to make together.

Aloha Friday means putting all those hard-earned skills to the test for the Jr. Guards at Ala Moana! 💪🌊 @honoluluoceansafety

After a week of training, these keiki gave it their all as they demonstrated a variety of rescue techniques in a fun and challenging relay. From rescue tubes and rescue boards to boogie board rescues, they showcased the skills they’ve been working on all week.

Of course, the instructors couldn’t resist joining in on the action, adding a little friendly competition and plenty of laughs along the way!

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for the Jr. Guards to take a ride on the rescue watercraft with incredible operators, giving them a firsthand look at another important ocean safety tool.

The week wrapped up with certificates of completion, recognizing the dedication, effort, and growth each participant showed throughout the program. Outstanding awards were presented in honor of Tamayo Perry through the Tamayo Perry Foundation. Mahalo for your continued commitment to water safety and for helping carry on Tamayo’s legacy @tamayoperryfoundation

A special mahalo as well to Dukes for providing a delicious bento lunch for these hardworking Jr. Guards as they celebrated an incredible week of learning, teamwork, and ocean safety. @dukeswaikiki
