September Reading Wrap Up 🍁🍂🌊🖤🍎🩸🌲

A month of reflection and showing up for myself.

#septemberreads #readingwrapup #monthlywrapup #bookstagram #hellooctober

Honestly one of my favorite reading months this year. 🥹
This month was quite heavy with intentional reads. I’m very proud! Also, I had 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ reads. Total read: 1️⃣4️⃣

Look at all those ARCs, 3/4 read. ✅

May October treat you all well and that you allow softness in. ♥️

Here are some of my favorite things, went to see Practical Magic with my mama, attended my first football game, volunteered with Aurora, went to a book signing, twilight, and participated in a suicide prevention activity at work. ✨

This ‼️‼️

Here to share a resource or two. Share and save if you need these. Take care of your hearts and feel all that you feel, I know I am.❣️

Q: What’s a reminder you feel like you need more of? I need to remember to hydrate and take it one thing at a time. ✨

An insightful panel was had as we discussed what the publishing journey has been like for each of us as a Latine/a author. Arlene @arleneabundis, Tamela @tameeksb, Lauren @laurentdavila and myself shared our experiences with the audience. Thank you Sara @judgingbythecoverbooks for lending your space and to the community that gathered!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage on an incredible author panel alongside @laurentdavila @tameeksb and @author.nydia.armendia! 💕💕

What an honor to be in conversation with these powerful and talented Latina authors!

Thank you to the ever so wonderful fellow author friend Lauren and owner Sara from @judgingbythecoverbooks for bringing us all together to talk about our experiences in traditional publishing, craft, and the obstacles we overcame in pursuit of our dreams.

It was so wonderful to see all those who came out to listen, support, and buy our books! We wouldn’t be anything without the support of our community, readers, friends, and family. ❤️

Day 4 Prompt Highlight your favorite Afro-Latine authors

Make more room on your shelves for Afro-Latine authors. 🤎📚✨

Our stories are not a monolith, and neither are our experiences. I love finding books that reflect the richness, complexity, culture, and lived experiences of Afro-Latine people.

From the Caribbean to the diaspora, these authors are putting their stories on the page, and I’m here for ALL of it. 🖤🤎📚

Representation matters, but whose stories we choose to amplify matters too.

Afro-Latine authors deserve to be on your shelves ALL year long 🌺📚

This is absolutely not an exhaustive list because we would be here for DAYS 😂 These are just some of my favorites that immediately came to mind when putting this post together. I’ve read every single book featured here, and trust me when I say there are so many more I’ve read, loved, and could have added.

And I love that there’s no one way for these stories to look. Romance, horror, fantasy, YA, poetry, nonfiction, literary fiction, stories about family, identity, history, queerness, community, resistance, joy and everything in between. Afro-Latine authors are writing across every genre, and I will forever be here to read it. 🤎

Consider this your reminder that celebrating Latine stories also means celebrating the Blackness that exists throughout Latin America and the diaspora. Our communities and our literature have always been beautifully layered.

So swipe through, add a few to that never-ending TBR, and if you’ve already read some of these, tell me which ones you loved! ☕️📖

When I wrote this I thought about @jaclynrodriguezauthor vulnerability in sharing her own experience. Thank you Jaclyn for inspiring this slide. 🥹

Y’all this has been in my drafts for a while and figured I could use it here. ✨

There are so many reasons, I highlighted a few. Also, added some quotes, 1st one is from Badass Bonita Book and 2nd is from an article by Jacqueline Woodson that @georgiakboone shared. 💗

I love reading 😭 As I’m looking at this it makes me emotional all over. Proud to be Latina is an understatement 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Follow follow follow Ariana. I met Ariana at Steamy Lit and I can say she is so sweet. Her content is thoughtful and aesthetically hits every time. Please check out her reviews. ♥️

Follow the Tour Stops using the hashtag and discover so many Latine creators. I have tagged our lovely co-hosts! Thank you for all that you do! ‼️✨

As we’re preparing for #HispanicHeritageMonth and making our book displays, make sure you’re looking beyond the stereotypical names and skin colors on the book covers to represent the entire Latine/Hispanic diaspora! @onedarkally posted in her story about her Black and Puerto Rican heritage and I’m so glad that she took the time and energy to educate us on looking beyond to make sure we’re representing the entirety of the community and our students’ experience. Check out these #middlegradebooks and #yabooks by and about the Afro-Latine community! #schoollibrary #bookrecommendations
