I love breastfeeding!

I do. I love snuggling up with Charlie, inhaling his scent whilst he sucks and sighs and uses his chubby little fist to pummel the last bits of milk from my breast. I'm a confident dairy queen. I feed on the go - perfecting the discreet boobie peek-a-boo for my baby who hates being covered in blankets. I'm the friend who will offer to feed your baby if you have an emergency hospitalisation or need a sachet from my freezer because your supply is running low. I have mastered dream feeding so I don't need to get out of bed in the freezing cold early hours of the morning. I can manoeuvre a hands -free feed in a baby carrier on the side of my elder sons' hockey match, cheering and nursing without anyone even noticing. I have exclusively added over 6kgs of weight to my (very) bonny baby since he was born, and I'm really proud of our little feeding duo

But...

The love I have for breastfeeding is rooted in the knowledge I have of how privileged and bloody lucky I am!

My baby was born at full term with no physiological feeding issues or health issues that would have separated us or made feeding hard. I had a supported and empowered birth that wasn't traumatic. I had excellent post-partum medical care with providers who respected my wishes and believed I already knew my newborn the best. I have a husband and family who are fully on board with my feeding goals. I wasn't questioned or undermined. I had the confidence to apply the knowledge I had gained and the intuition I felt in order to breastfeed. I didn't struggle with postpartum depression (maybe, in part, because of all the support and care I received). I came home, on maternity leave, to a husband who cared for me, family and friends who cooked for me, older children who were enveloped by a village who eased us so beautifully into this new journey of our family. When my mind and body felt vulnerable, my husband reminded me, again and again, that my sole responsibility was to nurture our baby. He took care of the rest (again, with the incredible support of our loved ones).

Hi new faces!

Since my dog Tammy spectacularly failed at keeping the ducks from the door, there have been so many more of you joining me here on my page and I’m so grateful you’re here!

The other day I was asked what I do, and it was the first time I proudly said “Garden Influencer” without a hint of embarrassment ( the title influencer is a bit cringey or is it just me?) and I’ll tell you why I’ve had a shift in thinking.
I’m so grateful I get to use this platform to share my gardening triumphs and failures with you as gardening has over the years, been my life-raft. It lifts my mental health, strengthens my body and connects me not only to my own creativity, but to a wider, higher level I can feel, but not explain.
If I can inspire just a handful of people to grow a pot plant, pick a dahlia, love our pollinators, slow down to hug your pets, plan a garden, or just plant a seed, well then I’ll gladly take it. Every tiny little bit of loving our green spaces and this who inhabit it helps not only ourselves but those around us and our environment.
So yes, if that’s the case then I’m happy to be-as my sisters call me- an #influenza🥰💚

Thank you for joining me in my garden.

Xx Susie
