For the @nytimes I wrote about @discotehran.nyc, a party & performance project that reimagines the 1970s Tehran music scene, here in New York. The parties are amazing. This Friday, they return to @babysallright and I recommend that you all go & see for yourself. Photos by the inimitable @dedecim. Link in bio!

This is a photo with many many people, who helped creating EMRUZ FESTIVAL possible. This is the last day of the first year of Emruz Festival. Date April 28th 2019. We build community, backed each other up, practiced our art and laughed a lot! We made friendships, network and more. We tried to put together the art that we are passionate about. We sometimes disagreed, and other times got inspired by each other. But at the end, more than anything, we realized it is possible, it’s easier than it has always been advertised! Now it is just fact that we all together made a six day festival of Music, Performance, and short film screening. We (emruz team) will for always be grateful for you all and the lovely experience of making Emruz Festival together... cheers to near future! #EmruzFestival2019

Salam party people! Beyond excited to be a part of the next Disco Tehran party (episode #14), this time over at the newly established @publicrecordsnyc in Brooklyn with an incredible soundsystem! In case you have never been to a Disco Tehran party, I highly suggest coming, it’s an amazing vibe! @discotehran.nyc and @brooklynenglish__ have put together some incredible talents to make this a special one. Doors open at 9:30pm and tickets are $20 at the door but there are cheaper tickets available online (check dice.fm). I’ll bring the rare stuff on vinyl, let’s dance! And thanks again to the whole @discotehran.nyc family for having me. Merci azizam!! #discotehran #publicrecordsnyc #vinyl #nyc #brooklyn #livemusic #danceparty

@discotehran.nyc x @partybuzzy this weekend in toronto was glorious !
The feeling of family was strong, & i’m so deeply inspired and in love with the beautiful #decolonization work happening in #canada here in #NYC and beyond ... all the brilliant #qtpoc shifting this society, reclaiming the culture, and holding crucial spaces for brown & female bodies 💃🏽👏🏾
••• Here’s a mix to capture this feeling: from iran to morocco, through egypt to nigeria, algeria, india and sudan, all by way of nyc 🌊

#DiscoTehran is a funky warm discothéque with live shows by local and international bands. It is a multi-cultural dreamboat that connects New York to the era of 1970s venues in Tehran. Each party explores groovy household throwbacks and rare music from the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
Here for the re-evolution 🌀❤️🙏🏾

@onairfest this weekend was immaculate! amidst all the stellar programming of visionary makers of sonic art & culture, i joined my @discotehran.nyc family to play a sweet lil set that turnt the #simplecast lounge into a full/on equator-hopping funk fest 🌍 🎚♻️🎶♾
Deep gratitude to the revolutionaries @aryadreaming & @mani.nilchiani for being so thoughtful in their curation of this movement, always bringing together sounds that span cultures & making incredible art for the space themselves. I’m allways honoured to play alongside them.
This is the true beauty of #NYC right here - this effortless blending of peoples and traditions. High-society and halal carts! #googoosh x #punjabimc x #fairuz !
I love you New York 🗽
here to groove you, let the rhythms freee you 🥁💓

GAIAS, I’M COMING OUT !!! 🔊

After what felt like an eternal winter in vital hibernation/incubation/recalibration mode I’m so ready and so grateful to flow into this month spreading my honeyyy and doing exactly what makes me feel the most alive. ✨ Making magic with some pretty remarkable humaliens & movements in some pretty special places ✨

Starting with this weekend 🥁🥁🥁 I’m honored to be back @onairfest with my most beloved re-evolutionaries @discotehran.nyc to talk funky about the cross-cultural impact of global music in NYC (the literal mission, ya’ll) 🌍 We’ll be amongst legendary curators of sound+airwaves (including my mentors from @radiolab podcast) & I’ll be spinning wax my parents thought would never see the light of day (+ it’s free)! Then later in the week, finally releasing into the aether the @BASSxYOGA soundtrack that’s taken me nearly 2 years to get the guts to piece together. I can’t wait to share. EVERYTING in its own divine timing … truly.

So, so much incoming goodness. Including an especially epic 2-part yoga event with @at_higherlevels on @thegarden court in April 1st !!!(early-release tickets ending this week)

I hope to seee you. To move myself free over and over and over again with you 👁💓🙏🏾♾
