My latest song, “12” is now available on @bandcamp & wherever you stream your tunes. [link in bio] In May, I travelled back to Iran after 8 years and head over heels fell in love with her all over again. One early morning in June we woke up to explosions in the sky, and thus began the 12-day Israel / U.S. invasion of my homeland. While furious and heartbroken, I also found solace and resolve in my heart: I was rooted in my soil and close to my loved ones. There was no other place in the world I would rather be. A few days after the war had ended, I picked up my cousin’s guitar, borrowed a few verses from Hafez and wrote a couple more. A week later I was at the studio recording. • “12” was recorded by @kavehab & @marjan__masoumi - mixed and mastered by @kavehab at @saba.studio - Tehran • Forever indebted to Khājeh Shams-od-Dīn Moḥammad Ḥāfeẓ-e Shīrāzī for his timeless wisdom from the great beyond • Immense gratitude to my teachers @faredshafinury & @maziarsharifian • Gratitude to my cousin, my brother @maziovsky for his guitar, and for hosting us lovingly at his apartment in Tehran. • Thank you to my people, who did not leave each other alone in the most painful and uncertain times. • Grateful for my homeland Iran, who continues to inspire me with her otherworldly beauty & grace. #tanhaw #tanhawmusic #indiemusic #iranianclassicalmusic #setar #persiansetar #radif  #indiemusician #persianmusic #outnow #newmusic by @tan___haw

🌺 Dear ones: Today, I’m thrilled to bring you my latest record, Las Bugambilias Vol.1: Navâei. This record marks the first volume of Las Bugambilias, a series of transcultural exchanges of folkloric poetics between Iran and México. Las Bugambilias Vol.1 consists of two renditions of the same song: Navâei, a beloved Iranian folk tune famously debuted in a 1965 play by Bahrâm Beyzâei titled Akbar the Champion Dies. Composed by maestro Gholamali Pouratayi to a poem by the 18th-century poet Tabib Isfahani, the song has most famously been rendered in the Khorâsâni style of folk music on the Dotâr, with vocals by legendary musicians such as Sima Bina and Osmân Moammadparast. Navâei is a hymn in praise of Love itself, in whose feast “a king and a beggar shall sit together, face to face.” 📝 Track 2 of Las Bugambilias Vol.1 is my traditional rendition of Navâei on the Setâr, accompanied by @yahyaaalkhansa on the Tombak. Track 1 is a contemporary take on the same song, composed of deconstructed elements of the original rhythm and melody, accompanied by the Spanish version of the poem, translated and narrated by my good friend and collaborator, Mexican sculptor and poet @miguel.peoc 🎨 The album art features the magical work of my favorite illustrator, Colombian artist @angelicaliv 🎧 Available on Bandcamp and wherever you stream your music. Link in bio! 📑 Credits: * Una canción, un himno was recorded and produced between NYC and Mexico City. The poetry was translated and recited by @miguel.peoc . Dohol samples were performed by @darobehroozi and recorded by @waynefaure2 at @harvestworks in New York. * Navâei was recorded by @tibugracia in @labestia_mx in Mexico City, featuring @yahyaaalkhansa on the Tombak. * Las Bugambilias Vol.1 was mixed and mastered by @kavehab at @saba.studio in Tehran. * Album art was illustrated by @angelicaliv * The Tan Haw logo was designed by @rambodvala * Immense gratitude to my life partner of two decades, @adrawingsurface for their continued support and belief in my work through thick and thin. • • • #tanhawmusic #WorldMusic #PersianMusic #FusionMusic #MexicanPoetry #folkmusicrevival #discovernewmusic #indiemusic taken in CDMX by @tan___haw

To hear my poetry so beautifully translated and delivered by my dear friend and collaborator @miguel.peoc , to witness the poetic potency of Spanish play so softly with the Persian heart of my Setâr, for this spontaneous creation to received by the loving community of the magical @kafe_kua , as Alan Watts famously said: "Wow-eee!" So many blessings. ¡Tantas bendiciones, ay! 📷 @delfin.estelar taken in Kua Amatlán by @tan___haw

Still basking in your vibrant love. Your hugs, your tears when you told me how much my music moved you. Thank you Brooklyn! On 9/19, we journeyed together from 19th Century Iran, to my ancestral Azerbaijan, then took the poetry of Hafez to the highlands of Tajikistan and shared unreleased songs from my upcoming album SIX YEARS in the making. YOU are what keeps me going in my moments of doubt, My beloved community. Big hugs to my incredible collaborator @katepassmusic & @yahyaaalkhansa , and to our lovely hosts at @bunnacafe 🌺 Until soon!
