We think the peanut shells and gum wrappers were there because they used the posts as little trash stashing spots before they were welded on in 1892! @veyna_kustoms did such an incredible job with our new stair railing! When we found out we had to remove the original staircase, I was so bummed to lose it. but we came up with the idea of using the original staircase posts and having Tim weld a new railing! It turned out SO good!!

From Brewery to Mixed-Use Revival. 🍺🏡 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Block Fifty began as a working brewery in downtown Kalispell. Today, it’s being reimagined as a layered space—residential above, future commercial below. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This wasn’t about a simple conversion. It was about respecting the building’s industrial roots while shaping a new chapter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We preserved the original masonry and fenestration rhythm, carefully integrating new openings to bring in light without disrupting the historic character. The upper level now serves as a home filled with warmth and views. The ground floor remains positioned for commercial energy—keeping the building connected to the street and community. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Adaptive reuse at its best doesn’t erase history. It evolves it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Swipe to see where it started. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Block Fifty 📍 Kalispell, MT Architecture: @greencouchdesign 💚 Interiors: @janaroach Build: @tannerdroach Images: @pixsbycam ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #AdaptiveReuse #MixedUseDesign #HistoricPreservation #MontanaArchitecture #architecturewithpurpose

What a joy it’s been to work on HOME REIMAGINED and with the inspired people, determined to turn structures never intended to be homes, into their dream ones! I’m a better person for having been a part of their journey. They, and their transformations, are remarkable. All episodes are now available to stream on @hbomax and @discoveryplus 🙏🏼❤️

In this historic brewery-turned-home in Kalispell, Montana, we used the tall ceilings to introduce a new lofted office above the kitchen—adding modern functionality without disrupting the building’s original character. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Building upward allowed us to capture bonus space while preserving the open feel of the existing structure. The kitchen, tucked beneath a lower ceiling, becomes a warm, intimate zone that leads into a bright sunroom through a dramatic portal-like transition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Honoring the past while elevating how the home lives today. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Learn more about what it really took to get this project off the ground and some fun behind the scenes of its @magnolianetwork feature via our website: https://www.greencouchdesign.net/home-reimagined-magnolia-network-brewery-conversion ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Project: Block Fifty Architecture: @greencouchdesign 💚 Interiors: @janaroach Build: @tannerdroach Images: @pixsbycam

Someone joked that this New Year’s party set the bar so high we’ll probably do less and less every year. Unfortunately for us, we seem to have the opposite problem and somehow go bigger every time hahah. I’m actually sad because we had a whole plan for the staircase and even went and picked up a ton of sticks to attach to the railing and hang tinsel from!! Filing that one away for next year. There’s just something about New Years that I love so much! Maybe it’s growing up watching Ghostbusters 2 over and over again when they save the world on NYE 😂. It’s the one day a year I commit to some sort of sequined outfit. I love lighting all my candles, pulling out all the antique glassware I’ve thrifted over the years, nothing too precious that it matters when one inevitably breaks, everything as pretty as possible, and letting all the games and chaos unfold. I had a very out-of-body moment last night watching all of our friends gathered in our new home and couldn’t get over it. There’s not a single square inch that I am taking for granted in this house 🥹 We left everything up and now we’re sitting by the fire listening to Gregory Alan Isakov, disco ball still spinning. Could not have asked for a better start to 2026. Cheers, my friends!!
