This kitchen made it to national television. 📺✨

Featured on #HomeReimagined hosted by Vern Yip on @magnolianetwork, @HBOMax, and @discoveryplus, this remarkable Montana transformation turned a historic brewery into a warm, functional family home filled with character, craftsmanship, and intention.

The heart of this kitchen is a beautiful statement piece, an #ILVE Nostalgie 48” Dual Fuel Range, bringing handcrafted Italian performance, timeless design, and everyday functionality to the space.

What makes this project even more meaningful is the story behind it.

After a devastating workshop fire threatened years of hard work and craftsmanship, Jana and Tanner Roach continued building forward, ultimately helping create a home that would go on to be featured on national television.

Proof that great design is about more than beautiful spaces.

It’s about resilience, vision, and creating something meaningful that lasts.

We think the peanut shells and gum wrappers were there because they used the posts as little trash stashing spots before they were welded on in 1892! @veyna_kustoms did such an incredible job with our new stair railing! When we found out we had to remove the original staircase, I was so bummed to lose it. but we came up with the idea of using the original staircase posts and having Tim weld a new railing! In this historic brewery-turned-home in Kalispell, Montana, we used the tall ceilings to introduce a new lofted office above the kitchen—adding modern functionality without disrupting the building’s original character.

Building upward allowed us to capture bonus space while preserving the open feel of the existing structure. The kitchen, tucked beneath a lower ceiling, becomes a warm, intimate zone that leads into a bright sunroom through a dramatic portal-like transition.

Preserving Character, Framing New Views. 🧱✨

One of the key architectural challenges in transforming this former brewery into a home was integrating new windows that honored the original structure’s rhythm and character. Every new opening had to align with the building’s historic fenestration pattern—inviting light in without compromising its soul.

From reworking off-center bathroom windows to coordinating structural brick cutouts, every move was an exercise in balancing function, aesthetics, and preservation. A creative challenge we were proud to be part of.

A year ago today. I still get teary thinking about that night, and this voice memo we got the day after. There was so much heartbreak, and somehow so much beauty has come out of it too. I wish I could say we’ve carried every lesson perfectly since then, but even today Tanner and I were stressing about something and I had to stop and remember where we were this time last year and how so many of the things that feel heavy day to day don’t deserve quite so much of our energy.

God is so good and gentle with us in the middle of tragedy. I’ve seen that a few times in my life in really big ways, and this was one of them!! Thank you to everyone who prayed for us, showed up for us and our kids, and gave time and resources when we truly didn’t know how to take the next step. I don’t even know where to start with how I’m feeling today, but I just keep thinking about all that has happened in the last year!! Last October we sold our house and started planning with @greencouchdesign to turn this old abandoned brewery into a home. We were excited, overwhelmed (and unsure lol), but moving forward. Then, in December, our entire @beckandcap workshop next door burned down. We went to sleep with a thriving business and by morning we had no tools, no orders, and no clear way to make a living.

The next day we were sitting in the middle of the shock trying to figure out what to do and @thehornbrook7 called Tanner and said, “I know this is strange, but I had a dream where I kept reciting Psalm 23:2 to you.” He had no idea that Tanner had been praying over that exact scripture for months, asking God for help slowing down and being able to breathe again.

Before the fire, Tanner was working until two in the morning and on weekends. There were days he walked through the door and didn’t know how he could go back. We were drowning in the production and sales cycle!! The business brought SO much good into our lives, but it also swallowed everything.

After Chris told us about his dream, something shifted. Losing everything was so freaking devastating, but it also forced us to look at what was left. We still had each other and the things that actually mattered! Once we realized that there was a giant silver lining in the midst of all the loss, it felt like ground was being cleared for something new.

Now we are less than a year from that day and living in this new (old) home. I think about our friends and family who showed up for us from the MOMENT the flames were out. I think about Tanner’s resilience through this entire build and the guys who worked beside him, sometimes long past midnight. I think about the insane odds of all of this coming together and how surreal it feels to be here now. 🤯

My jaw is on the floor. Less than 48 hours ago, our new (old abandoned brewery) home was a construction zone. We’ve spent the last 3 months building it from the ground up! New windows, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, walls framed up for bedrooms and bathrooms, brick walls removed, a new garage….it was a TASK. We were on a tight timeline to finish by November 16th, and we pulled it off except for a few things we need to finish before we move in. So extremely thankful for the people in our lives who gave their time and energy to help us with this project and those who came this weekend to help us over the finish line!!
