Second year at @culturecon, and I did this one a little differently.

Last year I spent more time at the panels. This year, I didn’t plan a whole lineup of looks or try to do everything. I stayed behind the camera more, walked around, caught conversations, and took in what everybody else brought to Brooklyn. And honestly? Y’all did what needed to be done!

What I love about @cultureconcollective & @culturecon; The fashion is a whole experience on it’s own and you can see the thought and personality behind it. Black style has so much range, and seeing people show up as themselves, meet other creatives, and take up space together is why I wanted to come back.

Thank you @imaniimani for creating space, especially for an international creator like myself.

But here’s a little of the fashion and creative energy. Tag anyone you may know!

Six Years… This week is a HEAVY week of grief for me and my family. I lost my Best Friend @janishargabriel September 6th 2020. And then 3 years later almost to the day I lost Sunny. This year was so special! Her good friend @tanyadenisefields decided a tree to her at Black Joy Farm, which Janisha, helped start and sat on the board! I’m so glad I got to meet Mama Tanya. We literally hugged and cried for 10 minutes straight before we even introduced ourselves! We love and miss you JRG. You were such a powerful force of change in this world! I’m always gon honor your legacy! ✨🧡🤞🏽✨

One of NYC’s favorite Spike Lee Joints - BK♥️ MJ came back to Fort Greene Park on Michael Jackson’s birthday! Crown Heights’ own DJ Spinna presided as he led a crowd of TENS of THOUSANDS of people who packed every square inch of the park (and surrounding blocks) to celebrate the King of Pop in style.

From legions of residents from the nearby Ingersoll & Walt Whitman (of which Spike is a lifelong neighbor ) to veteran transplants from different coasts and lands far, far away, it was a loving family reunion for all.

During DJ Spinna’s 7 HOIUR (count’em SEVEN7️⃣ ) marathon set he welcomed to the stage guests - Grandmaster Flash, Renée Neufville, Rev. Al Sharpton, Consequence and Stevie Wonder’s ‘lovely’ daughter Aisha Morris. 🎤
After a full Summer day of our favorite songs, samples, deep cuts and multi-genre remixes of both MJ and his bloodline (sorry, not today Shazam), Spike came back out and thanked all for coming as DJ Spinna dropped
“Da Butt” (Oh Yea?!?) The entire congregation sang and grooved to the dance that Brooklyn Filmmaker #1 created himself - The more you know. 🫡

Everyone looked sharp and comfortable and Myrtle, Willoughby, Dekalb, Lafayette & Fulton were electrified well into the night.
Thank you @officialspikelee Thank you @djspinna
