I can’t believe I’m writing this right now.

I met @traxamillion during a special time in the Bay Area. Before the Hyphy Movement was in full swing, it felt like there were so many of us who were just catching our first real wave of notoriety as producers.

Having such similar names, folks would always get us mixed up. People would always come up to me like I love “SuperHyphy” or “The Sideshow”. Anytime someone came up to him claiming to be his biggest fan saying that the remix of “Tell Me When To Go” changed their life, instead of correcting them, he’d egg them on to get the best compliment out of them to send to me. This back and forth went on for years.

This running joke even played out on stage at @hieroday 2018, right before the @djfreshdjfreshdjfresh vs Traxamillion beat battle, in which hosts @chinakahodge and @dnastee made sure to clarify to the crowd once and for all that “yes, they are two separate people; This one right here is Traxamillion and this one over here is Trackademicks!”

Our music community has once again lost a prolific talent of our era. Integral to the Hyphy sound, and Bay Area music at large, he’ll definitely be missed. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. 🕊🙏🏾

About a week ago… STRAIGHTEN IT OUT was back in full effect at @madroneartbar with our all genres, all good jumpoff. We had a full house enjoying sounds from guests @djmackswell @spinorita and resident @livinproofsf goin back-to-back all night! Thx to all the fam who showed out on the dance floor. Precisely one lifetime ago, Tanya Morgan dropped Brooklynati. It’s been 12 years since, but the album and campaign still hold up 100% for me. I remember being in a car with @vonpea and @donwill , driving to PDX for a date with N.E.R.D.’s Seeing Sounds on loop for like 8 hours. We were yammering so deep on it that we never bothered to switch the disc.

So many little things went into that album that some of em don’t ring any bells despite proof of their existence on my hard drive. As big an uphill battle as we had - with a name like Tanya Morgan and a high-concept record, we definitely pulled some things off that I’m proud of.

I remember going to Universal City for a meeting with our Label Manager (LM) who we had worked with since 2006. We walk in with Von, Don and Ilyas and the LM, who had worked 2 whole fucking TM albums by then says “so nice to have you guys here. When will Tanya he here?”. Countless emails, one-sheets, music videos and this dum-dum was still on the outside of the joke. It worked a little too well. Von mentioned that in a verse on “Plain Cheeseburger”.

The album really did take a village but special thanks go to @id110 who taught me everything I know, @shellymac_xo who was so damn down with our craziness from day 1, @gramwithme who built the city with us and, @filthygomez who pushed so much of that album’s sound, and of course, @tanyamorgan.

It’s a classic.
