Coolin’ Chillin’, Loungin’ (DJ mix - link in bio)

The Brown Sugar album definitely brought some of the best hip-hop remixes from any R&B/Soul artist of the 90s. D’Angelo vocals sound like butter already, but on top of The Beatminerz, Erick Sermon, DJ Premier production… with features from Kool G. Rap, Redman and AZ! It felt like new territory at the time, maybe obvious to anyone with good taste but not expected lol. I wanted to showcase these remixes alongside a couple other choice D’Angelo joint, plus some other favorites that matched this vibe - some underground and some mainstream, album cuts, single releases and even a massive POP hit! Pre Voodoo and pre Soulquarians, Badu, Dilla, Questlove. This is my anti neo-soul mix! TAP IN. by @tap10

I’m not tuned into any commercial radio nowadays but there was a time when I was glued to a couple stations in the Bay… when mixshows were the best way to hear new rap and the quiet storm station had Anita Baker, Sade and Luther Vandross in regular rotation.

Did u know KBLX was the first station to adapt to a 24/7 ‘Quiet Storm’ radio format?! Meanwhile, KMEL was the first station to move towards an all Hip-Hop format (word to @dancharnas!! These stations could’ve been considered polar opposite music programming at the time (save for KMEL Love Lines, night time r&b dedications). “Players Choice” is like a mix of both these worlds, specific to my folks who love Bay Area mob music and player shit. These are smoove jazz, adult contemporary rap tunes! 🎷🎷🎷*link in bio* by @tap10
