A Monday night burlesque show inside a coworking space probably wasn’t how most people expected to start the week. But once the lights dimmed inside Rowan House, the setup somehow made perfect sense.

For one night, @roholanc transformed into a cabaret tucked somewhere between old Hollywood glamour and downtown Lancaster. Presented by @bretzy18 Upfront Theatre Co. and @coworking, “A Night of Burlesque & Variety”, turned the start of the week into something immersive, theatrical, and surprisingly intimate. Tables filled quickly as the crowd settled into a space that felt less like a social club and more like a hidden speakeasy built around performance and spectacle.

Hosted by the incomparable Kate Nyx, the evening moved fluidly between acts without ever losing momentum. Burlesque performances shared space with aerial artistry, comedy, drag, puppetry, live vocals, and spoken word, creating a variety show that constantly shifted tone while still feeling cohesive.

The entire evening felt committed to atmosphere. Nothing felt half-done or ironic. The performances leaned fully into cabaret culture through costuming, timing, audience interaction, and theatricality that made the experience feel transportive. It was a reminder that live entertainment still has the power to surprise people when artists are given room to take risks.

Burlesque especially continues to be one of the most misunderstood art forms. People often reduce it to shock value, when in reality it has long been rooted in storytelling, satire, humor, and control of presence. The best performances are rarely about what is removed. They are about anticipation, character, and the ability to hold a room’s attention without breaking it.

And honestly, Lancaster’s creative scene feels stronger when spaces make room for performances that are immersive, unconventional, and a little unpredictable.

Over the last several years, more venues across the city have started embracing that kind of programming, and this event is an example of that evolution happening in real time.

Somehow, a #burlesque show inside a coworking space ended up being exactly where people wanted to be on a Monday night.

Work hard. Show up. Deliver. Repeat.

But if you think that’s all we do… you don’t really know us.

Sharp minds by day, city lights and a little edge by night. Deals getting closed, glasses getting raised, and the skyline reminding us exactly why we push so hard. Chicago just hits different when you’ve earned it.

This trip? Equal parts power moves and well-deserved indulgence.

Grateful for a team that knows how to win… and look damn good doing it.

Staffing world, consider this your warning. We’re coming back recharged, refocused, and ready to take over the rest of 2026. 🔥

San Diego really showed out 😎🌴
Sun, vibes, amazing food, and even better people. Huge love to all my friends and family who came through to hang out and made the trip unforgettable. Y’all are the real MVPs.

And while we’re at it… congrats to Tara for winning Salesperson of the Year for the SECOND year in a row 🏆🏆
Because winning once is nice, but winning twice is a pattern.

Work hits different when you’re surrounded by great people and stacking wins.
Travel, celebrate, dominate, repeat.
Work is just more fun when you win. 💼🔥

There are nights that feel less like an event and more like a reminder of why we show up for one another. @a.calhouneventsllc Summer in the City Networking Happy Hour was one of those nights for me. It wasn’t about exchanging cards or small talk. It was about walking into a space and immediately knowing you belonged. That kind of energy matters, especially when you consider how rare it can be for BIPOC professionals and business owners to have rooms created with them in mind.

For Alissa, who has built her career as an event planner, this gathering represented more than just a successful evening. It was a milestone. It wasn’t only about who attended, but about what the event symbolized moving forward. Spaces like this become catalysts. They normalize inclusion. They remind us that community isn’t built by accident. It’s built when people choose to open doors, pull up chairs, and make space for others to be seen.

What stood out most was the spirit of the night. While networking events can sometimes feel rushed or transactional, this one was different.

Alissa made it clear from the start that this was meant to be easy and approachable, just a chill summer vibe.

The atmosphere was easygoing and approachable, a summer evening meant for connection.

But as I stood there, catching up with friends and meeting new faces, I realized it was about so much more. It was about support. It was about community. It was about creating a place where we didn’t have to question whether we were welcomed.

The timing, aligning with National Black Business Month, added another layer of meaning. It wasn’t simply about gathering for the sake of gathering. It was about visibility, recognition, and strengthening the foundation for Black-owned businesses and leaders to thrive.

Summer in the City was a reflection of what’s possible when vision meets purpose. And with leaders like Alissa continuing to create these spaces, Lancaster can look forward to more moments that blend joy, opportunity, and the shared commitment to building a community where everyone belongs.

Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
